Be Hercules

Speaker 1:

Welcome to the one day at a time podcast where we forget about yesterday. We don't worry about tomorrow. It's what are we going to do today? This all matters because you've only ever had or will ever have the fantastic twenty four hours a day you're about to embark on. Hopefully this episode is going to give you some daily dose of wisdom that you can take action on today to improve your life.

Speaker 1:

Remember, all it takes is one day at a time. Let me ask you a question. Who would Hercules be if he didn't have all the tasks and troubles he had? Well, he wouldn't be Hercules at all, would he? So the story of Hercules was a story of someone who was offered two choices, he came to a fog in the road and these kind of two angels came down one was like look Hercules you can come down to me it's pleasurable life is amazing, you'll have everything you want, you'll be happy, comfortable, full of luxury and then another Angel Kidman goes look no she's full of shit that they tell you it's pleasurable and amazing and comfortable but once you've been pulled into that zone you're gonna be feeling, you're gonna feel like nothing you've done is worthy, you're gonna feel down and miserable, come down my route but my route's tough Hercules.

Speaker 1:

It's got tasks that you're gonna find really hard, you'll have to do a few things, you're gonna have to sacrifice a few things, you're gonna be working really hard. But at the end of the day, you would have worked hard for what you've achieved. You're gonna work hard for the skills you've got, You're gonna work hard for a sense of fulfillment in your life. But it's tougher, I'm not gonna lie to you. And of course Hercules picked a tougher path and that's how we became Hercules.

Speaker 1:

And it's the same for you guys, you're on a fork in a road right now. We're wow, this, you know, this plan, this macros and training and going to the gym and trying to be, you know, change my identity to be this healthy person, strong person, you know, really tough, you know, wow. You know, I just wanna sit in, I wanna sleep in, and I in in the nights, I just wanna stay in. Was gonna go drinking in in the sun and I just wanna be living a comfortable life. But at the end of the day, that comfort, that appeal on the surface is great.

Speaker 1:

But if you keep letting that appeal pull you in, it's gonna end up you're gonna end up in a a in a phase of regret. So really when you look at it, the regret minimization tactic, this is what Jeff Bezos used a lot is, what will I regret the least? Will you regret not following the plan? Or will you regret missing that, going for a drink all the time or whatever it is? Well of course you're gonna regret not following through the plan because it can be transformational.

Speaker 1:

Following through with something with support can be really transformational. So just remember that of course changing your lifestyle and following a healthy lifestyle, a moderate lifestyle is tough. It is not gonna lie to you, it can be tough. You're going to be going through a lot of mental battles. You know, there's a mental health workshop tonight, can help with, you know, when I go over journaling and stuff like that.

Speaker 1:

But it's a journey. It's tough, but I'm telling you, it's so rewarding. It's unbelievably rewarding if we go down the path of of of trouble and and frustrations and, you know, all that type of stuff. So, yeah, just this is just a reminder to say, you're on this path, and if you keep going, you're gonna get huge amounts of rewards, and you will thank yourself over and over and over that you kept kept going. Don't you say you kept, you kept going to improve yourself and you know like James Clear says in Atomic Harbets, it's the 1% a day, doesn't have to be huge amount of changes, huge amounts of change are one goal, doesn't really work.

Speaker 1:

You look, we're not asking you to eat chicken and broccoli every day, we're not asking you to train seven days a week, not asking you to do all these huge changes, we're saying look, three workouts a week, get your steps in, increase your protein, eat what you want but try and come in within your carbs and fat goal and let's get going, let's get going with that and let's build from that. And then really great analogy I'll finish with is, he talks about an ice cube getting melted. So if an ice cubes at minus 10, and you melt it to minus one, there's a lot of work on into melting it or like to heat it up from minus 10 to minus one, you know, there's a lot of work on to that. But the ice is still ice, but hasn't changed, still minus one, it's still frozen, but then it goes from minus one to zero and then start melting. Was all the work taking it from minus 10 to minus one worthless?

Speaker 1:

Of course it wasn't, it was necessary, but then the change all the way all of a sudden wow boom you wake up boom change. It's the same with fitness right, you're gonna be trying hard, you're gonna be pushing it, know you're gonna go from minus 10 to minus seven to minus six to minus four and you go, fuck I don't feel like I'm changing what's going on, then all of a sudden you wake up you go oh yeah wow, Water weight drops off, you feel tighter, you feel strong, you feel happy, you feel a sense of fulfillment, you feel strong in the workout that day, you're drinking, you're on form with your macros, you're meal prepping, now you're saving money from all the meal prep you're doing, you're on top of things, people are thinking your moods gone better, things start clicking and you're like wow this has just happened overnight, no of course it's not happened overnight, you've worked to that point it just sometimes the moment the switch flips at certain points. But don't be fooled that all our work was not needed. Is required and it's going to be it's going to be tough, but it's going to be worth it.

Speaker 1:

So keep with it. Keep with it. It is midweek. Again, focus on today. What's your one big thing today?

Speaker 1:

Keep focused. Do your best. Go to sleep tonight when the head hits the pillow. You want to be saying to yourself, do you know what? I tried my best today.

Speaker 1:

I was honest with myself. Didn't didn't self deceit. Wasn't self deceit happening today. I was honest. I might have gone over, but I was honest.

Speaker 1:

And you'll sleep really well knowing that you tried your best and you were honest. And that's all you can do day in, out. So have fun today. Enjoy yourself. I'll speak to you tomorrow.

Speaker 1:

And that's it. Thank you for listening to the one day at a time podcast with your host, Galf Lear. Hopefully, you understood something I said. I hope that some wisdom kind of distilled through into your mind, and I want you to now action it today. I don't want you to think about tomorrow.
