Being Busy

Speaker 1:

Welcome to the one day at a time podcast where we forget about yesterday. We don't worry about tomorrow. It's what are we going to do today? This all matters because you've only ever had or will ever have the fantastic twenty four hours a day you're about to embark on. Hopefully this episode is going to give you some daily dose of wisdom that you can take action on today to improve your life.

Speaker 1:

And remember, all it takes is one day at a time. Good morning, everyone. How are you all doing? First of all, just wanna mention, hopefully, yesterday's voice note helped you. Have a good day.

Speaker 1:

First start first day at the start of the week. We need to build momentum, guys. The soul that matters is building momentum. Because think about this, when you feel your best, it doesn't mean that you've done your, like, always, like, one upping yourself. It's just when you're making progress.

Speaker 1:

So let me try and explain it in I'll try and explain different scenarios. So for example, in, a business sense, I feel my best when, like, a project comes together and is, like, successful and the results are awesome or, the like, the progress is being made that way. Like, it doesn't matter if that project far exceeds the next one or the one after doesn't do as well as long as, like, that kind of thing has been done, like the process has been done and it's been enjoyable and is successful, that's where the joy comes in. Like you don't always have to be doing better and better and better, but like that kind of feeling of progress is the same no matter when it is in your life. Like me making progress at 18 even though it's nowhere near the same progress as now felt just as good as me making progress now.

Speaker 1:

Does that make sense? So what we're what we're after, we're not necessarily after like major changes straight away or like world beating results, we're just after that feeling of progress because that's where we feel on top of things. So all you got to do is get that progress machine going and once you get that going momentum, happy days, it all clicks and all feel good. So yeah it's important to get the progress going. Maybe so like then an update really on my father, been getting him moving around the warehouse, he comes to the warehouse every day and he moves talk about he's sorting out the shelving where he's getting someone to sort it out but he's moving stuff about very out of breath doing it like it's like you know like like really out of breath but that's a good thing obviously so he's not pushing himself beyond that, but he's pushing himself to that level and he needs to do that every day.

Speaker 1:

So, you know, I'm just letting him, letting him go about. He wants to now start a little side hustle. He wants to stop doing his buses. He wants to start like selling some product from the warehouse. So he wants to put a bit of money into him, made a bit of money back, but he wants to make it his business.

Speaker 1:

He doesn't want to invest in someone else. He wants to just put something in, make some money back to have some like kind of fun with it. So I'm thinking any of you got any ideas, something physical product wise that can be stocked in a warehouse, that can be sold, that can keep an old man who loves business and work going and keep his COGS going so he keeps doing his steps without even realizing it. That's the goal. His diet improved.

Speaker 1:

I did give him a diet plan. I don't suggest that to most people, but in this case his age at 74, whatever he is. Just needed to give him some meal plan options to split out that he was already eaten. Tends to be he looks healthier. He does look healthier, but, he's not been weighing himself every day for me to take averages, so that's not good.

Speaker 1:

So I need to try and get more weigh ins off him and measurements but, yes, all one step, small steps. However, you know, it is a there is a concern it has to be done faster because of the the the danger, you know I mean? Like it's gotta be fixed in a relatively short amount of time or like, is it going to be too late in a way as grim as that sounds so, but it's good progress, like thing is as well when you are occupied busy, you're not feeling hungry or not and the time flies by. So when we're bored, tend to overeat all the time with a bored, we're like, I'm bored. And the first thing we think was eating.

Speaker 1:

But maybe it's not even like, what can we do to fill our time? It's not boring. Like we've got to get into flow state and this is something else I've realized. Oh my God, being back in Wales, Right? Go back to London now tomorrow.

Speaker 1:

But being back in Wales, I realized so at the moment, I'm doing this I'm doing this building this course out with these top tech influencers. No. Not tech tech influence, top tech entrepreneurs Monday, Wednesday and Fridays but it's US time so it's nine p. M. To eleven p.

Speaker 1:

M. UK time so very late. But I do that, I do all the work in the days and just realize that like if you put in the work day in and day out and you have enough time to be quietly working without distractions because most of the time is so disturbing, you're trying to do work someone comes in, someone comes in, chat, you can't get into rhythm, you can't get into deep flow state. If you can get into a deep flow state once a day you are in the 1%, honest to God. Like the amount of people I've like spoken to and like see how they work and stuff, they don't get into deep work state ever, like it's always this like shallow work what is chalked in and typing it's nowhere near like you can't do anything of worth doing that you can do basic tasks but you can't do anything of worth that's going to be game changing if you can't get into a deep, deep work state there's no way you know deep work book is called deep work by Calendly reports.

Speaker 1:

You've also got like it's called the flow state or like I can't remember Bruce Lee calls it, but it's like when you're unconscious does the work for you type of thing. There's definitely like a superpower in regards to getting into that state and time flies by. So the benefit of trying to get into a deep work state is one, you're gonna do better work. Two, time does actually fly by. Three, you're not thinking about food.

Speaker 1:

Four, you're gonna be on top of things, aren't you? So really we wanna we wanna be getting into this deep state at least once a day minimum. And, you know, some things that help get into obviously music, Brain FM does work and it's really good. The Pomodoro technique helps with this. So you do twenty five minutes undisturbed.

Speaker 1:

You do not look at anything else, but you just do that one task you meant to do. That works really well. Waking up in the morning, first thing to do is the task you wanna get done. That seems to work well because you just wanna get into it straight away, maybe a cup of coffee as well. But those are the three main things.

Speaker 1:

Maybe maybe some exercise beforehand and going into it. That's the technique some people are trying out now. But, yeah, there's a few things. But really, yeah, that's sort of that's just like an update really over here. But get busy, guys.

Speaker 1:

Keep busy. It stops you worrying as well. In the book by Dale Carnegie, how to stop worrying and start living, he talks one of the main ways to stop worrying about stuff. So if you're going through a breakup, you're going through, like, bad decisions, you're looking at all, like, you know, like a failure or whatever it is or, you know, something that's not going right in your life. You want to if you get busy with something and get fully indulged in there your brain doesn't have time to worry about it you just get on your brain's amazing in that way and then before you know it you've stopped worrying for a bit you're relaxing you're like oh that's good, that feels good.

Speaker 1:

So there's so many benefits to getting busy but not in the sense of being busy for busy sake, being busy productively with deep work is gonna you know, be beneficial to you so don't think anybody should just get busy for the sake of it, just get busy, busy, busy, I'm talking like two, three hours of deep work a day. If you can get that done, that'll just change your life, no doubt. So that's it for today, guys. Get your deep work on uninterrupted work whatever you do if you're creative and all that stuff whatever or if it's a side project whatever do it and let me know you get on it's a good book if you want to read the deep work but maybe listen to a podcast with them you might get it in an hour. But that is it from me today.

Speaker 1:

Remember, ground yourself in the today is the only day that matters and, make the most of it. Don't think about tomorrow. Don't worry about yesterday. Happy days, and I'll speak to you tomorrow. And that's it.
