Block This Energy Drainer
Welcome to the one day at a time podcast where we forget about yesterday. We don't worry about tomorrow. It's what are we going to do today? This all matters because you've only ever had or will ever have the fantastic twenty four hours a day you're about to embark on. Hopefully this episode is going to give you some daily dose of wisdom that you can take action on today to improve your life.
Speaker 1:And remember, all it takes is one day at a time. Good morning, everyone. Let's get straight into today's lesson because all you see in social media well, all I've seen is people having a massive go at the fact that Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, and Branson are going into space and stuff like that. Right? People are outraged by this because their companies, they're so wealthy that they should be helping save humanity.
Speaker 1:La la la la la. And could they do more? Probably. Do they have their net worth in cash? No.
Speaker 1:Their net worth is tied up in assets and stuff. But here's the thing, you outraging about stuff not gonna change a thing. Never will. It's never gonna change a thing. There's no point wasting time and this is for anything.
Speaker 1:Social media you go on it, pulls you into this hole of shit, and you can't get out of it. You're outraged. You've spent all your mental energy already in a day being outraged or something you just wouldn't even know is going on. And I'm not and I don't mean that to be ignorant. I just mean, like, is Jeff Bezos going to space because he's always wanted to do it and always got enough money to do it.
Speaker 1:Is that really affecting our lives? No. It's not. Is it up to our governments more so to be, you know, putting these peoples in check and on having this kind of wildly extreme extremes? Probably.
Speaker 1:Yeah. And how do we do that? We go and vote for the right people in. Right? So when it comes to voting, people can start voting in the right way as opposed to then going for funny old Boris.
Speaker 1:That's a different that's a different story. Different time, Alan, guys. But the the topic of this is, the amount of times I've seen people being outraged on social. It's it's like it's easy to get sucked to it. You know, I speak to when I spoke to Donald Robson, one of the last calls with him, he was saying, you know, he gets sucked in.
Speaker 1:He's like a therapist. He knows exactly what's doing. The bait sometimes is so intense. The bait is there, and you're like, oh, I gotta do it. And once you do it, have you ever felt better getting outraged over a piece of news or replying to someone having online social media arguments?
Speaker 1:I've been in plenty. Right? And it just does it just it just there's no benefit to it. There's no benefit at all. So today is Friday.
Speaker 1:Right? You've you've only got today, right? This your life is one day at a time. We know this has been drilled into you. The only moment is now.
Speaker 1:We know that, right? So if you'd ask yourself every time is it is would I wanna spend my precious moment now worrying about what someone else is doing, or should I just, like, live what's in front of me and enjoy and do what makes me fulfilled? La la la. If you keep asking yourself that, you're gonna drastically reduce your phone time. You're gonna drastically reduce your gossiping time.
Speaker 1:You're gonna drastically reduce the time you spend comparing to others. Look I've said this quote before competition is for losers, there's no need to be in competition with anyone, there's just no need. The only if you want someone else's feet if you want someone else's glutes, right, you're gonna have to if you go like, I want that person's lower body. Well, I'll say, well, if you want their lower body, you have to be you have to swap your entire life for them. Are you willing to do that?
Speaker 1:Your entire life, have to swap them. You go, obviously, no. I like bits of bammy. Exactly. You can't cherry pick things.
Speaker 1:No. You can't cherry pick it. Same as cherry picking outrage on social media. Cherry picking or Jeff Bezos like that. Well, what are you was if you are so annoyed, but that is something that you're so deeply in, you wanna spend your time trying to trying to get people in the right positions through voting and stuff, wouldn't you?
Speaker 1:So this outrage culture is like the media companies. Oh my god, they're loving it, Because they make money from you going on their websites, they make money from, ad impressions, social media. Social media companies obviously make money in the same way. The more you're on the feeds, the more ads you're gonna see. So they're all loving it.
Speaker 1:They're obviously gonna want you. They're gonna bait you. Right? They're gonna do it. They wanna keep you on these platforms.
Speaker 1:And it's up to you. It's up to you as an individual to stop getting sucked in. It is hard, but you have to stop doing it if you want any slither of hope that you're gonna wake up and have a good day. So there's this principle called first principles, right? And this is kind of when I'm gonna end this voice note ties in this.
Speaker 1:For example in tennis, right, before what do tennis players do before they start another rally when they serve. Right? They do this. They do the same routine. You see them.
Speaker 1:They they put the ball down twice, focus back and forth. It's identical every time. And the other person who's waiting, they'll do the same thing as well. They go and get position. If they don't do that little first principle routine to get into the zone, everything's out of whack.
Speaker 1:Okay? It's the same in golf. They go up to the thing. They gotta do their own routine. It's the same as Johnny Wilkinson, England rugby player.
Speaker 1:I used to do the the hands together kick, you know, for kicking a post. So there's these things that we first principle things we have to do that have knock on effects to then equal us playing well or being successful for the day. It's the same in our days. What are the first principles for your day that if you get them right the day tends to be is way more success rate, your success rate is way higher that day than it would be previously. And I'm adamant right, not checking your phone in the morning and having an hour of silence or hour not on any technology should be one of those first principles that would lead you to having a better day.
Speaker 1:There's loads of quotes in this win the morning win the day, It's ancient, what is it done like, it's been around. The longer pieces of advice have been around the more likely they are to be true, right. You know this author Naseem Talab talks about it called the Lindy effect, like the longer something's been around well it must be right, must be working that piece of you know there's all those sayings piece of wisdoms we have that are still around but we don't take them seriously. But think about it what's your first principle for the day and Atomic Harbors talks about this in a sense as well. So you need to figure that out and I think this news sucking our attention is something we really need to fight to actively avoid because if you say, well, only got my phone in the morning to like check one thing, it'll pull you in.
Speaker 1:It'll pull you in. So it is Friday, so you know maybe you're gonna have to think about over the weekend but let's start thinking about that. Let's start thinking about not trying to jump in and giving social media companies exactly what they want. You know, their their art of persuasion in a sense is just, you know, they've they've nailed it on. They got teams of people trying to suck you in.
Speaker 1:And, yeah, you think, you know, you think you're fighting a battle online and you're fighting against other people, but everybody's just doing monologues. No one's listening to anyone. They're saying what they wanna say. They're not even listening. There's insulting.
Speaker 1:You got all these logical fallacies and stuff happening it's just it's not worth your time right and I've seen it too much. So that's your take home for today. In terms of health and fitness guys we've got a new challenge starting on August. There's a five week dance challenge. So we're gonna have literally a dance session a day, weekdays, different times.
Speaker 1:Some of them are gonna be just dance fitness, some, you know, eighties style, some of them are gonna be like routine ones where we're gonna build up a routine to some good music, Some will be like dance techniques. So like Latin, dancing and stuff like that. So it's more so making sure that, again, it's one of those first principle things. Like if we can get a workout that makes us feel good, endorphins running, our mood's gonna be elevated. We know when our mood is elevated that we're gonna be better on people.
Speaker 1:And when we're better on people, we have a better day. So that's coming, August. If you're a Turtle member, is of course free. For non turtle members the price will be revealed soon, but that's coming up a little fun for the summer. But other than that guys have a good weekend the sun is shining I'll see some of you in orange theory tomorrow, but make a good air for this weekend now stay off your phones, live in the moment like we spoke in book club as well, like trying to enjoy the moment you're in.
Speaker 1:We know we've read plenty of books now, you know, about these things. Atomic Harbors kind of touch touches on it in some sense. We've got Man's Search for Meaning, Think Like a Monk with Jay Shetty. There's plenty of other books we've probably touched upon in different ways. I think we seriously need to be conscious of doing it.
Speaker 1:So that's your task for the weekend and I'll see some of you in orange theory. Hope it's not too hard because it is hard. But have a good weekend, everyone, and I will see you next week, hopefully, with a new intro and outro to the podcast as well. Oh, yeah. Watch out.
Speaker 1:So ta da. And that's it. Thank you for listening to the one day at a time podcast with your host, Galf Lier. Hopefully, you understood something I said. I hope that some wisdom kind of distilled through into your mind, and I want you to now action it today.
Speaker 1:I don't want you to think about tomorrow. I don't want you to think about yesterday. I don't want you to think about leaving a review on this podcast. I don't want you to think about going to another website. What I want you to do is as soon as this podcast ends, you will take action and make the most of today.
Speaker 1:Ground yourself today. Follow the one day at a time philosophy and your life will change.
