Everyone Struggles
Welcome to the one day at a time podcast where we forget about yesterday. We don't worry about tomorrow. It's what are we going to do today? This all matters because you've only ever had or will ever have the fantastic twenty four hours a day you're about to embark on. So hopefully this episode is going to give you some daily dose of wisdom that you can take action on today to improve your life.
Speaker 1:And remember, all it takes is one day at a time. So gang, we are back with the one day at a time daily podcast. I'm gonna mix up the intro. I'm gonna get rid of the Cobra Kai soundtrack, and I'm bringing some summer jazz maybe to jazz this podcast up. But just finished the annual call.
Speaker 1:Very interesting, you know, and I think Suzanne, I saw Suzanne post in the comment box saying she felt better knowing other people's experiences. Because I think a lot of us think that what's happening to us is unique and it doesn't happen to someone else and why do I feel like this. But the thing is most people are feeling the same way sometimes worse, sometimes better. It's not so much that that's what matters is that everybody struggles no matter how good social looks and all that stuff. Everybody has struggle days, struggle weeks.
Speaker 1:When we have these struggle days, struggle weeks, it's not to fight against it and go, why am I having these weeks? It's to actually say, this is how it is. And you kind of go with it. And I was saying on the on the call, like, it is very irrational to think that we're gonna have good weeks every week. Like, as humans and look, we do I used say, like, one day at a time, the turtle method, the symbolism is slow and steady.
Speaker 1:But how we are wired as humans is typically we do go through phases of high motivation, and we blitz something, and then we kind of ease off. That's kind of how we are built in a way. And if you think about all the things in your life, like when you apply for a new job and you did loads of applications in one go, you were like in high motivation stuff. Then, you know, a week later, you're exhausted, like, oh God, I don't know how I did all that. Same as when like, you sign up for something like a challenge and you do the first two weeks, you blitz it, and you're, two weeks in after that, you're, tired.
Speaker 1:Then at the end of it, you're, I don't know how I did Ola. It's kind of like we have these bursts, and it's it's we're never gonna be motivated all the time. And neither should we be thinking we can. And, you know, Dean talks about this a lot, motivations of feeling and stuff. And I just think that, you know, commitments will matter ultimately.
Speaker 1:But I think beyond that, it's just taking action daily, making that a habit. Making it a habit every day to take an action is gonna be the person you wanna be is the most important habit you'll ever have. What's the type of person you wanna be today? Would that person skip a workout? Would that person be making up excuses all the time?
Speaker 1:Would that person not read and fill their mind with new ideas and thoughts? Would that mind not be nice to other people? Would that would that person not, you know get their steps in and listen to music or to feel music or podcast, would that person not prep their meals ready for the next few days. Like list down the qualities of the ideal person you want to be and you will become that person But you have to become the habits of that person and habits is to mean in Latin like they mentioned in the strike and so habit is I live. In Latin it meant I live, I am.
Speaker 1:So that's habits are you. You are habits. Whatever habits they are, they make up you. So whatever you are as a person is the accumulation of your current habits. So the only real way to change yourself is to change those habits, isn't That's it.
Speaker 1:So buy atomic habits because we're reading our next book club. But beyond that write a list and write a list of things you admire in other people and that's typically a good quality to go for on yourself. But, really, I think the most important thing if you if you macros is a goal is prep your meals. Honest to God. Do you know what easy makes your life if you prep your meals?
Speaker 1:Just like buying bulk, prep your meals. Yes, it's the same meals for the few days. Yes, it's not the most, know, it's not, glamorous in a way, do know I mean? But ultimately, we're not going for that. Like having the same ease is fine.
Speaker 1:I don't know what society's telling you should never eat the same ease so boring. Do you know what? I like having a bagel with bacon and eggs every day. I do do like it. Some people love to have their oats every day and sometimes we alternate to other things that we have as a stable, meal every day but don't try and like be creative every day like speaking to my father's partner I was like look stick to this diet I've made and I don't believe you should do it but he's old and I've mentioned it before, just needs to stick to something, needs to stick to being a deficit.
Speaker 1:I just said, well on Mondays we have this and Tuesdays we have that. Look, just do the same thing every day, make life as easy as possible for you to just hit track as macros, just get the same food, the same meal, cook it in bulk, just get it done. That's all you need to do at the moment is get those four weeks in, build in those consistency, watch the weight drop off and the health improve. Like stop over complicating things. Right?
Speaker 1:Have the same lunch every day for the week, see what happens. Have breakfast. Same breakfast, same lunch every week, every day for the week. Maybe change your dinners. How easy is that?
Speaker 1:It's so easy. And do and stick to that and tell yourself, do know what? Today, I'm not even gonna I'm not even gonna entertain the thought that I could have anything more than what I've planned. If a thought comes into my mind, I'm gonna go for a walk and I'm gonna have a glass of water and that's it. So, yeah, that's your task.
Speaker 1:I know people have got their own one big things today of running or whatever, but, like, everybody struggles. Every nobody, even the people who've lost loads and loads of weight, then they feel amazing. They've lost, like, 70 pounds. They feel on top of the world like a different person. They still feel your struggles.
Speaker 1:We all do it. I do it. Louise, Ryan, Paul, Dean, we all feel the same things. So write a list of the person you want to be. Think of the habits that you need to get or the habits you need to become to be that person.
Speaker 1:All the atomic habits and we'll get to work on our next week. But really, what's your one big thing today? Is it a biatomic carb? Is it a 10,000 steps? Is it a tracking macros?
Speaker 1:What is it? And if you've got things planned on the weekend, how is it about reducing your carbs 50 grams today and fat by 10 grams and do that for the next few days just to give yourself more allowance on the weekend? How's about that? Up to you. But, I'll see you guys.
Speaker 1:I'll see you in book club on Thursday, which is the last one for Mansoj Romanian, then we're doing atopic habits next week. But have a good day. Take it one day at a time. Don't think too far ahead, and that's all it takes. And I'll speak to you tomorrow.
Speaker 1:And that's it. Thank you for listening to the one day at a time podcast with your host, Golf Leer. Hopefully, you understood something I said. I hope that some wisdom kind of distilled through into your mind, and I want you to now action it today. I don't want you to think about tomorrow.
Speaker 1:I don't want you to think about yesterday. I don't want you to think about leaving a review on this podcast. I don't want you to think about going to another website. What I want you to do is as soon as this podcast ends, you will take action and make the most of today. Ground yourself today.
Speaker 1:Follow the one day at a time philosophy and your life will change.
