Move Body, Move Mind
Welcome to the one day at a time podcast where we forget about yesterday. We don't worry about tomorrow. It's what are we gonna do today that's all the matters because you've only ever had or will ever have the fantastic twenty four hours a day you're about to embark on. So hopefully this episode is gonna give you some daily dose of wisdom that you can take action on today to improve your life. And remember, all it takes is one day at a time.
Speaker 1:Okay okay no messing we're going straight in today. So martial arts lesson with LAC Master JKD mentioned that, emotions get stored in parts of our body organs. Was like I have to look us up, I've not come across this before. But with my B. Walter open empty cup mindset I was like hey doesn't mean it's wrong because I've never heard of it, that's ego talking let's have a look let's read into it.
Speaker 1:Whilst it seems to be true in sense but not really, you know it might not store, the word store might not be true but there's definitely research to show the mind body connection and different emotions impacting different parts of the body. It's fascinating actually. It reminds of Why Zebras Don't Get Elsewhere Robert Sapolsky says, When someone's got like a lot of anxiety and stress and they take muscle relaxants like Xanax or something like that, they seem to as soon as the kicks in their muscles relax it seems as if their anxiety and worry disappear because the muscles are relaxed. So there's definitely a super strong connection between our body, our emotions and our mind right and it's something Lac said which was brilliant, he said move your body to move your mind. Right, so how many of us, so if we know right that taking a muscle relaxant makes us relax or muscles relax and then therefore our tension stress goes away, we feel a lot better, less anxious.
Speaker 1:When was the last time you really opened up your body, you really went for in training? Do you know why boxing on Sunday was such a success or why boxer size is so good for people? Is because you're swinging, you're punching, you're moving parts of your body, you haven't really fully moved maybe in years, maybe in decades. When was the last time you went for a sprint and you really opened up your legs and you opened up the gate boom and you were sprinting going all out. When was the last time you did that?
Speaker 1:When was the last time if you ever all out punching, swinging, stepping, kicking, probably some people never. So if we think about it that way we're always as humans where you know we're laying in bed, we wake up, know we sit in a chair for hours and we go back up we do a bit of training and sometimes the training is not exactly like you know open us up you know we do some weights and stuff but there's a real big difference when you go and do something like boxing boxing fitness and sprints and running, where you kind of like you're opening your body up. So what I want you to think about is, have you got tension in your neck? Have you got tension in your back? Have you got tension somewhere?
Speaker 1:Have you really given yourself a chance to unleash all this tension and stuff and, me like put your body to work really giving it a chance to get blood flow through every part of the muscle, every muscles in your back and your legs everything like that, guarantee you're going to feel better. It's a very interesting thing to speak about because you know he's talking about different emotions stored in different parts different organs like I can't remember the exact ones I think, fear in the lower back was one, in the kidneys and lower back which is interesting but I'll send the link there is a study on this right and it does say in the study that the limitations are not 100% guaranteed like there needs to be more research done it right which is you know important but it's not a gospel but it's an Eastern practice where they do believe in typically if something 's been around for years and years thousands of years like ancient wisdom, your grandmother's wise words and they've been around they typically have some truth it doesn't mean they're like scientifically accurate in what they say but there's some truth to it.
Speaker 1:So yeah that's interesting and if you haven't done a martial arts lesson definitely do it but your one big thing today ideally is you don't have to do this workout today but think of something you haven't been able to do in a while or never done. Have you done a sprint? When was the last time you sprinted? And I want you to do a sprint when you go running an X or go for a walk, jog and just you know try and sprint and open your legs up, do the boxing class and go all out like punch like hell, do it, go crazy and you'll feel amazing and people commented in the community saying you know they were anxious and tensed up and feeling frustrated and angry and that boxing session seems to have fixed it all And it's tying in with this thing where we're storing all this emotion and we've got an outlet to get rid of it, but I do not think that doing like bicep curls and some squats is going to be an outlet that will do that because you're targeting muscle as opposed to utilizing the body. Do you mean?
Speaker 1:I think there's a difference. I think it's important to know about that. But that's it for today. I really want you all to have a think about that. Let me know what you think.
Speaker 1:Let me know noticed a different exercise helps with different parts of your mindset or your body. And, yeah, let's work on seeing what we can do in terms of like, you know, obviously we'll keep the boxing on for turtle membership and stuff like that. If it's got a significant impact not just the workout wise but obviously mentally as well. But, that is it have a good day remember just focus on today nothing else needs to be done you focus on your day you do your one big thing Right? You do your one big thing.
Speaker 1:That one big thing complete. So this is a quick one. This is how motivation works. You don't wait for motivation hit. Right?
Speaker 1:People think you get motivated, which then turns into action, which then turns into progress and then progress gets you motivated again right. You've got a wrong way around. Action turns into progress, progress turns into motivation Right? So we start on the action because if you start on the action, that's always something under your control. The only thing you can control is your voluntary actions.
Speaker 1:This is what the Stoics believed, and Lords of Ancients believed. You can't control anything else. You can't control emotion. Right? You can't control it, but you can control your voluntary actions.
Speaker 1:So your voluntary actions are to take action is to go on a two minute walk, two minute run, a two minute workout, to read for two minutes, to clean wash the dishes for two minutes, whatever it is. You do it for two minutes right and it's a two minute rule after you've done it for two minutes because you're getting some progress you feel you know what I'm making some progress here it feels good. Then you get motivation and then you complete whatever you're going to do. This happens all the time, This says this in Atomic Habits, and many other books Tiny Habits as well that if you can do the two minute rule you can actually not all the time but you can give yourself a much better chance of getting motivated because you're giving yourself those small progress steps. So is there anything in the back of your mind today that you like I've got some things in the back of my head like I gotta do that, I'm done it.
Speaker 1:Let's just do it today. Just get started on it. If it's the taxes or if it's like I don't know paying something off or like looking at your finances all the stuff is in the backyard like I don't want to do it just start doing it for two minutes and yeah you get motivated so just leave you an app but again focus on today let me know what your one big thing is and, yoga tonight. So zenning out tonight. Speak soon, guys.
Speaker 1:Speak soon. And that's it. Thank you for listening to the one day at a time podcast with your host, Scott Fleer. Hopefully, you understood something I said. I hope that some wisdom kind of distilled through into your mind, and I want you to now action it today.
Speaker 1:I don't want you to think about tomorrow. I don't want you to think about yesterday. I don't want you to think about leaving a review on this podcast. I don't want you to think about going to another website. What I want you to do is as soon as this podcast ends, you will take action and make the most of today.
Speaker 1:Ground yourself today. Follow the one day at a time philosophy, and your life will change.
