Speaker 1:

Welcome to the one day at a time podcast where we forget about yesterday. We don't worry about tomorrow. It's what are we gonna do today that's all the matters because you've only ever had or will ever have the fantastic twenty four hours a day you're about to embark on. So hopefully this episode is gonna give you some daily dose of wisdom that you can take action on today to improve your life. And remember, all it takes is one day at a time.

Speaker 1:

Good morning, Kolbakai. I hope you enjoyed your first martial arts lesson. I loved it. Right? Proper loved that lesson.

Speaker 1:

Very different, right, to what is now a fitness class and stuff like that. But it's essential that you look at this as its own entity, compare it to others. And like Lac said at the start is to have that empty cup. Right? But I'd be interested to know what was the the main thing you learned from it.

Speaker 1:

Like, you comment below what was the main thing you took away from our lesson? I'd love to know. For me, was a factor like how wrong I've been standing all my life when I'm in, you know, nights out and, you know, if you go to Wales McDonald's after a night out, there's always fight success. Like, I don't know why it just fights all the time in takeaway shops, kebab shops after nights out. And you just think of like all the crowds you've been in and how you stand and it's like I've been standing with my arms crossed, literally putting myself at a disadvantage all these years.

Speaker 1:

If someone came to attack me, I just wouldn't know what the next move would be, just be a random thing, wouldn't it? Now we know. Okay, so my right I'm right handed, so my right hand goes on my left elbow and I'm just there and I can go into the on guard position immediately, right? And I can go boom, finger jab to the eye, boom, throat, groin kick we're gonna learn about. I think that's that in itself has given me a lot of power in a way.

Speaker 1:

I'm like, I've now I know that I can be in these scenarios and I'm always prepared. Even though 99.99% of the time, I'm not going to get attacked. Well, hopefully not, unless, you know, it's Ryan and I'll just attack him actually. But it's good to know, it's good to be prepared and it's good to know what to do next. And I think a lot of you must have taken that away from me because a lot of you know, men, not all the men do martial arts but like women don't do martial arts either, isn't this something that should be introduced more schools and it should be like you know gender neutral in a way like everybody is martial arts can do martial arts, but it can be more of a male thing just because it's like aggressive fighting.

Speaker 1:

But yeah, hope you took that from that lesson and I'm pumped for the next lesson guys. Look, remember as well, it's the first lesson you've done, if you think you're gonna nail stuff now, you're not like, you're not gonna master it now so don't worry about, I couldn't do it. You've got eleven plus hours more with LAC. He's one of the only 26 people in the world who is certified under the Wednesday night group which is Bruce Lee's Wednesday night training group. They don't even do public teachings.

Speaker 1:

Right? This is rare, very rare but it all starts with a building block. You can't run before you walk or you can't do it. So remember that you can't do that. So do these teachings and these basics because they are the fundamentals.

Speaker 1:

And once we get the fundamentals right, everything falls into place. Same as macros, same as weight training. Remember, you can't just run the same as yoga, that's why we're going back to basics and I can't wait this week is back to basics, back to basics with macros, back to basics with martial arts and yoga, back to basics with doing a one big thing, just getting it done, maybe some steps, simple stuff, super effective, super effective. But you have some quotes from Bruce Lee that I love right, so now I'll just list them out, some of them may resonate some not. Okay, here goes, so Bruce Lee's quotes, showing off is the fool's idea of glory.

Speaker 1:

That's a good one. As you think you shall become. Yes Bruce. This is one of my favourite, adapt what is useful, reject what is useless and add what is specifically your own. He believed in subtracting more than adding.

Speaker 1:

He believed in addition via subtraction. Bruce Lee thought that he saw himself as an onion, right, and he would and he was peeling the outer layers off becoming more within himself like he was like a sculptor but he was scalping from the outside going in and he was revealing more of who he is every day but chipping away getting rid of stuff as opposed to what we always think like what we have to add, we have to do this, we have to do that and add this other stuff. Have to add more, we got to subtract more to become who we are meant to be and that's what Lac spoke about and I did the quote about Bruce Lee as well. You don't want to copy other people, you want be inspired and like I'm inspired as hell by loads of people like Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, sports stars Bruce Lee, even just like normal kind of like normal, you know, not super mega stars like that, but general other people as well. And I realized a lot like that if you speak to some of my friends stuff, it's good that they would say that I'm always the same, which is good, because you don't want to try and be someone else.

Speaker 1:

But it's so easy to actually look at someone you admire idolize and just like want to copy them. And I kind of think that's like an easy way to go down and you might want to do it to start with in a way because it might gain the right path. But I hope you all are realizing that you want to be more of you, as Bruce Lee says, you want be more of you. The more of the quirky parts about you, the you unleashed, you not like thinking what other people are going to think if you are yourself, right? I remember once like one of my housemates was with us and she said that when she lived somewhere else, she just couldn't be herself and then she was with us and she could be her goofy self and she felt relaxed, right.

Speaker 1:

And she said when she lived somewhere before she couldn't be that person, like you're literally like a prisoner in your own mind. You can't be fully yourself because you worry about what other people think. So do a better mind. Next one, knowledge will give you power but character respect. Having no limitation as limitation.

Speaker 1:

Nice, Bruce. Nice. To hell with circumstances I create opportunities, damn right. If you love life don't waste time for time is what life is made up of. Oh, if you love life don't waste time for time is what life is made up of.

Speaker 1:

Unbelievable. What are you gonna do today? You got time today, you've got all the time there is twenty four hours a day, you'll never get more than twenty four hours a day, you won't get less. The only thing you ever have is the present moment. So he's talking about what your time today, what are you gonna use that time for today?

Speaker 1:

Don't waste it, live with urgency but not rush in same as what festina lenti means, make haste slowly. You want urgency in your day but you don't want to be slacking and like, feel like you want to get that energy, right? You know you've got that energy in you because if you're slacking on the couch, right? And someone tells you something you really hate and it just gets your blood flowing, you're up like a boom and then all of a sudden you got energy. I remember back in the day when you're in school, three 03:00, oh I'm so tired, soon as school bell goes for some reason your manager sprint 400 meters to the bus and you're shouting and laughing and screaming.

Speaker 1:

You're just the same person ten ten minutes ago. You can get into these livable, alert, alive, urgent ways of living and it doesn't mean rushing right, there's a difference. Live with energy and purpose right, you can cultivate a %. Here's a good one, mistakes are always forgivable if one has the courage to admit them. Yes.

Speaker 1:

If you spend too much time thinking about a thing, you'll never get it done. Good action is needed. A wise man can learn more from a foolish question than a fool can learn from a wise answer. A wise man can learn more from a foolish question, which is good. Lacks very wise and martial arts, so I'll send him as many questions as you want.

Speaker 1:

It doesn't matter how foolish, he will learn from them because he's probably not trained a group of 300 people live who have never done martial arts in a way. So, you know, it's a experience for lack. And here's the last one I leave you on for today. The more we value things, the less we value ourselves. The more we value things, the less we value ourselves.

Speaker 1:

Like Bruce Lee, what a philosopher, genuine, ignore the martial art side, He's genuinely one of the best philosophers you come across. And if you read and be water, my friend, you know about this. So what are you gonna do today, guys? What are you gonna do today? Are you raring to go?

Speaker 1:

Are you feeling tired and sluggish? Are you thinking, it's Wednesday someday, oh, God, I gotta do my work or are you realizing that this is the only twenty four hours you'll ever have or will ever have, you're not going to have more time than this. So what are you going to do? Your life is made up of time like Bruce Lee says, you can't just think of your life as a years and months. Your life is made up of moments which is made up of hours which is made up of days and days will make your life not the other way around you can't go oh I'll do this for you that's who I'm going to become, no what you're doing every day is who you become, that's the thing.

Speaker 1:

So do remind yourself of that, Remember, take things one day at a time, pick your one big thing today, smash it, could be yoga, could be macros, could be 5,000 steps, get your water in you and see how the day goes, but live with energy, live with purpose and, you know, enjoy the day. Don't take it too seriously but also do make the most of today and I'll see you in the group but yeah do comment what you thought the lax workout please I'd love to not workout, god it's not workout is it of the session I'd love to know and, yeah, anything else guys let me know but it's day three of the challenge but we've learned a lot so much from me. We've learned so much already. I can't wait to learn yoga tonight so see you in a session. And that's it.

Speaker 1:
