How Long Do We Give a Baby to Walk?
Welcome to the one day at a time podcast with your host and the future leader of The Republic Of Wales, Sveldfjer. Now this might be the only podcast in the world where you actually have to reduce the speed instead of increasing it. However, what I wanna get over to you is that the past is gone. The future doesn't exist. So if you wanna make the most of your life, you've gotta make the most of these moments every single day.
Speaker 1:And this podcast is gonna help you live a healthier, more fulfilled life, hopefully, giving you some wisdom to take away every single day. So I'm gonna shut up now so you can get on with listening to the next episode. Good morning everyone. First thing you all need to do is to complete Heru Guillermo's goal setting session that we did last night and it was awesome. It's like it is the basics.
Speaker 1:You just got to put your time in. It was only an hour, but I think everybody who did it thought more about their entire life and what they got to do now in that hour than they have in a while. And I think like it makes you realise, know, depending on your age as well, you know, when you're younger, your goals are mostly security based or like finding a partner, financial security, then you as you get older, it seems to be more family experience related. But it's definitely something that everybody should do because, like, as a quote who said, actually, that just makes complete sense. And it's similar to what Jim Rohn says.
Speaker 1:I mean, Jim Rohn says, if you don't run the day, the day runs you. Right? So you have to know what you wanna get out of the day. Otherwise, it's just gonna be a day of chaos. Right?
Speaker 1:And you might be you might be busy. Right you might be busy on the day busy doesn't mean shit busy means nothing you'd rather be less busy and you know achieve stuff than just be busy with nonsense. So he had said he said if you've planned your life the days are easier to plan or the days plan themselves. So if you plan your life the days plan themselves and that's very important. Let me just go through some of my goals I don't mind sharing them like but obviously these are subject to change but life goal obviously happy marriage with kids and you know like with the right person and you know experience in life and stuff like that.
Speaker 1:I think that's most people's life goal isn't it really? It doesn't have to actually be a it's the right person. And financial independence in terms of nobody can tell me what to do, I don't have to rely on somebody else, I don't have to have anyone dictate what I do. And I think that a lot of that does come down to finances, my B goals. Those are my A goals.
Speaker 1:My B goals are to write books and live near my best mates as my life goal. So I need to be near my best mates. I need to be in a happy family, I need to have financial independence and I need to be reading essentially and writing books just for my own enjoyment because I do really like writing. My five to three year goals, my A goals are the same as my life ones, finding a partner and financial independence. And I think my B goals in the next five to three years is take one year off to explore everything I'm curious about.
Speaker 1:So I would go to all the historical places that I've read about. You know, I'd go to Paris with a new lens. I'd go to Vienna. I would go to Florence. I'd go to Nicopolis where Epictetus had his stoic school.
Speaker 1:Japan. There was a lot of place I wanna go and just be where I've Corsica when Napoleon was born And just do that ideally with someone. If not, I would do it alone. No problem at all. And then going through those goals, you know, they obviously refine as you get down.
Speaker 1:And then, you know, it makes it clear, like, when it gets to your six month goal, I got turtle up 20,000 users. My other a goal is what is it? Okay. And I got my b goal is to take one month off just to know work in terms of the work I'm doing now, but to pursue other intellectual interests, visit places, start a new side hustle that is fun and nothing to do with making money, like it just could be anything. Write the first draft of a book, I'm on that right now which is good.
Speaker 1:And then another b goal, and this maybe should be an ego. I don't know. To be more open and spending time with friends and family that have been there for my life. So few things I need to look at. I'm doing this voicemail right after the thing.
Speaker 1:So I go to sleep on these and see what goes on. But yeah, it's a good thing to talk about. But do the exercise and then come back to me with it. But what I really wanna get in today is like, we're all trying to improve our lives. And it's not about the goal, it's about the person you have to become to achieve that goal.
Speaker 1:Right? That's the important thing. Who what type of person am I gonna be if I'm gonna write a book right? Well I'm gonna have to be someone who reads a lot, researches, be curious, takes anecdotes, digests it. I'll be the person that loves learning right that's the reason writing a book I don't care about the end result whatever, but just wanna go through the process of developing ideas out because sometimes your thoughts are so messy.
Speaker 1:Unless you write out your thoughts and your things, you're never gonna clarify your thoughts. So writing out your thoughts on a piece of paper you realize how messy they are but then you come to new ideas and conclusions as you write and you don't necessarily get this when you think about things only in your head. Okay, so that's why writing is amazing. Again, what type of person do I have to become to, take time off for a year and go and pursue intellectual things and places and all that stuff? Well, I'm gonna have to become a person after, first of all, I'm gonna keep financial independence, obviously.
Speaker 1:But I gotta still be a person that is like gonna plan it out, still be interested, go and read up more about that stuff, get into it. Someone who wants to explore someone who wants to experience different cultures and stuff like that so the person I become through that trip will definitely change who I am in subtle but good ways. What else have we got? You know happy marriage with kids with the right person, I'm gonna have to be my full self aren't I? To be the person to have that you have to be a full authentic self, have to be open, have to be honest, you have to be compassionate, you have to be loving.
Speaker 1:You have to be all these things. So for you to be successful in that regard, to be with the right person and spending your life with them, you're gonna have to become the person that can be achieved. But we all have to keep trying. We just have to keep trying until we die. That's the game.
Speaker 1:Right? How let me ask you a question. How long would you give a baby to walk from crawling? Would you give the baby three months to learn how to walk from crawling? Maybe four months?
Speaker 1:Five? One year? How many how much time would you give for that baby to walk before you give up? Well none obviously because you couldn't do that. The baby will try and try and try and try until it walks, until.
Speaker 1:It tries until. Right? There's no until six months, it just tries until and eventually gets there. How long about gonna kid ride a bike? Until they ride the bike.
Speaker 1:How long until you learn to read? Until you read. How long you learn to write? Until you write? Right this has been, this is how it's always been until until until.
Speaker 1:Now, health and fitness. How long until you become a healthy version of yourself? Three months, six months? No, until you do become the healthy person you meant to be. What about nailing your nutrition, getting it right, getting your protein right and carbs and fat until it becomes right for you.
Speaker 1:Like fuck me, like this is it. You've got to keep going simple as. There is no end, it's called an infinite game. This is there's a guy called Simon Sinek right and he talks about Start With Why, that's one of his books. But he's got another book and it's called The Infinite Game and he talks about companies who play infinite games never lose because the game doesn't end.
Speaker 1:Companies who play finite games always lose. Okay so companies that play finite games like oh we need to do it, we need to get to this and we win or we need to knock that competitor out, need to get them out of business, lose. Companies who've got infinite games such as Apple. Apple are not thinking we need to knock Microsoft out and kill them and our job done. Apple's game is we will keep innovating and bring out the best products possible.
Speaker 1:The game never ends for Apple. The game never ends for companies like potentially Tesla now. Right? The game doesn't end for these companies. And that's how you should look at your health journey, your health and fitness journey, should look at your career obviously, you know everything else.
Speaker 1:If we play the infinite game there is no such thing as failure we keep going. Now as Hugh mentioned there's some things we do need to learn to quit and we have to be smart enough to know when that is true. When should you quit a pursuit or career, thing if it's wondering if it's really impacting your mental health really negatively, right? And you're focusing on the end, you're any means to get the end. That's not how we should be.
Speaker 1:It's about the journey of the person you become. Right? What type of company do you need to build to play an infinite game? Well, a company that just keeps on as the core culture is to develop and create fantastic products for your customers and love the process of doing so. Not the company that makes 2,000,000 profit as an end result.
Speaker 1:That's not what's going to make you a successful business, is it? So have that in mind today until until until until until until and that's the game. You will use the macros app until until you get the results you want right? Don't give up. You will dance like I'm gonna do until you are dancing like Michael Jackson, maybe not so much Michael Jackson, but until you can bust a few moves maybe or not, not even then until you just love, keep going, keep dancing.
Speaker 1:We keep going guys, we keep going. But the goals are just the direction we go. Sometimes you don't even need to see the end. If you can just see like a fog a hundred meters in front of you or maybe 50 meters in front of you, right, you walk 50 meters, you see another 50 meters, you keep going, you don't really know you're in there, you don't know what's right, you don't know what's hundred meters ahead but you know what's 50 meters ahead you keep going in the right direction, you don't have to know, you don't have to know exactly who you're gonna get to your end result and the thing is you don't actually life is very funny where you set a goal to do this and then you weave in and out and then you end up somewhere else and you just wouldn't you just can't believe how that's happened. And it's it just that's life.
Speaker 1:You connect the dots looking backwards, never forwards, but we can determine our direction. I love this quote by Jim Rohn and I'll say it now. He says it doesn't matter what happens to you in life, same as the stoics, what happens is how you respond, right? And he explains it as the set of the sail. So the set of the sail, the wind doesn't determine what direction you go on the sail, it's your set of the sail that determines the direction you go, how you maneuver your sail, where the wind hits it depends and you can go left, you can right straight and back, whatever it is.
Speaker 1:So you can't control the wind, that's nature too powerful, it happens. But you can change the set of your sail, right. We've all gone through shit, we're going through COVID, this and that, We all go through similar things. We think we're unique, we're really not. We're all going through shit.
Speaker 1:That's the wind. The wind is always blowing on everybody. The wind will always blow. The wind of an economic downturn, the wind of potentially losing jobs, the wind of breakups and relationships, the wind of failed marriages, the wind of our kids being nightmares when you get them, the wind of the lockdowns and COVID, there's so many wins we all experience but some of us are setting our sails in a much more clever manner and that's the power you have. So think about it, how will you react?
Speaker 1:How will you react? 50% of the top 500 companies in America started in the middle of a recession. They set their sails in the right direction. They had a lot of shit wind coming their way, but they made work with it whilst other people stopped, put the sail down, went to sleep, give up until the wind passed, they crept forward. And when they had the favorable wind back, they flew down ahead of everyone, and they are 50% of the S and P 500.
Speaker 1:They started in recession. So I'll leave you with that. Think about it. Think about it. And do the session with you Gilmore.
Speaker 1:Guys, please do it. It is a fantastic session, and hope you enjoyed it please share with me your goals as well if you want to share in the group or comment underneath you what your a and b goals are don't be shy post them and you might is it enough for no one else and for you and let me know if you sleep like what I want to know is if you sleep tonight and things change I feel like mine are going to change after I sleep tonight. I think it's important that we let our subconscious mind get to work but enjoy your day guys remember as Hugh said as well we break these down so we can focus one day at a time. Are you going to let the day run you or you're going to run today? Up to you.
Speaker 1:And that is it for today's episode so hopefully you took something away from it if you didn't here's we need to take away. Stop wasting time on social media. Stop wasting time gossiping. You've only got a day to live. Today's the only day you ever have.
Speaker 1:So if there's anything to take away from this podcast, even if you can't understand the word I say, even if you didn't resonate with the wisdom I try to deliver, this is a reminder of you daily to live one day at a time. Give your moments meaning today and don't be fooled by thinking you've got unlimited amount of days. But if you can make the most of today, I'm telling you you'll have a fulfilled life so enjoy your day and hopefully I'll see you back tomorrow. Give your moments meaning today and don't be fooled by you've got unlimited amount of days. But if you can make the most of today, I'm telling you, you'll have a fulfilled life.
Speaker 1:So enjoy your day and hopefully I'll see you back tomorrow.
