How To Handle The Weekend Like Napoleon

Speaker 1:

Welcome to the one day at a time podcast where we forget about yesterday. We don't worry about tomorrow. It's what are we going to do today? This all matters because you've only ever had or will ever have the fantastic twenty four hours a day you're about to embark on. Hopefully this episode is going to give you some daily dose of wisdom that you can take action on today to improve your life.

Speaker 1:

Remember, all it takes is one day at a time. Alright then, straight to it today. Good morning as well, by the way. Obviously, the weekend's coming. We're fully aware.

Speaker 1:

So weather looks amazing. So the first thing to do weekends are coming if you're on this health fitness journey and you want to be and you're on the fat loss journey wherever, first thing you need to do is you need to do what the stoics did, the premeditation of evils. You have to for you have to see you have to basically foresee what's gonna happen. Right? And Napoleon was a master at this.

Speaker 1:

So if you don't know who he is, read up about him. He wasn't Hitler. Okay? He was one of the greatest minds of all time, one of the greatest military strategists and generals of all time. There was one point when he had a meeting, and they had a table full of notes about what they're gonna do against the Austrians in a war.

Speaker 1:

And he was standing by a window reeling off plans, left, right, going through everything. And he looked at his generals and, they were shocked. And he said, hey. You thought I was going off my notes? I don't need them.

Speaker 1:

I don't need those notes. I'm so well prepared. I know exactly what's gonna happen step by step. I know that if I do this, this is gonna happen. I know if I did that, that's gonna happen.

Speaker 1:

And what he managed to do is he managed to plan out the scenario from the start to the finish of all eventualities, and that is why he won so many battles. He knew what the enemy was gonna do before he they they knew what they were gonna do. And he merely he won some battles simply by marching, by shot and surrounding them because he knew if he went there, they would go there, and I'll go there, go there, just steps ahead. Now how is this relevant to you? Now the weekend's coming.

Speaker 1:

And if you're going out drinking, guess what's gonna happen? What usually happens? That's what's gonna happen, what usually happens. Right? But what we do is we keep we keep thinking to ourselves, nah, that's gonna be different this time.

Speaker 1:

I'm not gonna go nuts. I'm not gonna go drinking too much. I'm not gonna have, like, all the fries and all that stuff. And like, if you think about it, you are literally If you went to battle every weekend and you lost because of the same thing because you just charged in and they took you out, they beat you in and you charged in and they just surrounded you. Imagine you did that every weekend in battle, they'd be like mate you did this last time, stop fooling yourself you're gonna go straight in and you're gonna just succeed it's not gonna work like that.

Speaker 1:

So we need to get more, we need to do more like strategy for the weekend. So let's start off by knowing right I've got this plan what's the worst thing that's gonna happen this plan well the worst thing that can happen is I'll say I'll have one bottle of wine and I have four when I get totally wrecked. Okay, what's the worst stage for my eye? Well if I get totally wrecked I'm probably gonna eat so much junk food especially in the night and likely next day. Okay, what's the worst gonna happen?

Speaker 1:

Then next day is gonna be a complete write off so Sunday I'll just be proper dying it's not going to be good. So I'll just be dead all day and then Monday and go back to work. That's kind of like the worst thing that happened is like you ruin the full next day because you go and you drank way too much and then you add way too much junk food, right? That's kind of like the worst, not even that bad, it's worst case scenario. So what we do is we go right if that is gonna happen and you know what is the which what can I leverage to control of it so obviously when it comes to the next day you wanna you can disable the automatic reaction for delivery or whatever the next day by simply going to the shop now today and getting lots of fruits, lots of like 83 calorie Greek yogurt lollies, getting lots of low calorie pizzas, whatever it might be, stalking your fridge up, getting that food ready so the next day you've got a lot of those to go through first and then you'll fill you up and then you won't need to get delivered, you're gonna save money, you're gonna save a lot of calories?

Speaker 1:

Right when it gets to being wrecked right and drinking too much. This obviously if you know you need to question yourself right this is kind of trial and error like do you need to go that extra step to go really really off and then regret it every single time. Like think about it like how at what point of that night does that happen? Yeah. And if it does happen, like is it happening because you're trying to drink too much too fast?

Speaker 1:

If so, slow down your drink rate. Last weekend, last Saturday, I went out for like a brunch with some friends and we, you know, just went to run pubs and stuff in a day. But because we were drinking throughout the day, like, there's hardly any any hangover at all. But if you try and drink way too much in a short space of time, that's when it's gonna hit you hard, ain't it? So, guys, just look at your weekend and don't be naive to what's gonna come and then go Monday, go, oh my god.

Speaker 1:

I can't believe I did it again. Well, you should believe you did it again because we do it all the time. But do what Napoleon did in the stoics, the pre meditation of evil, plan out what's gonna happen and then work around it the best you can and that's all you can do, but you and I, you are not going to be surprised by yourself. And, that's really the, the nugget you're gonna get today. I just want you to make sure that, it is your choice ultimately how you begin to spend.

Speaker 1:

No, it's not the alcohol's fault, right, it's your fault. Right? So, you know, sometimes like, the summer's coming summer's here. The Euros are starting. Wales are playing.

Speaker 1:

Come on. Where's this? On, boys. And the weather is amazing. So it is tough.

Speaker 1:

Look. I'm not gonna lie about it. It's tough to balance this lifestyle where you kind of, like, you work hard all week and then the weekend comes. It is tough. But we to be smarter than we were last week.

Speaker 1:

We have to gain from and I don't wanna say failures, but we need to gain from what we're doing the weekends before. Do we have to make smarter drink choices. Go on research how many calories and certain drinks today. What's worth it? What's not?

Speaker 1:

Right? Pina colada not worth it. Other ones maybe they are, that can help research into foods like how much calories actually in a kebab. Have we even bothered to look into how many calories are in a kebab or into all these foods that we typically eat? Probably don't have a clue, but it's worth knowing because when it comes to it, it has been in the subconscious and we can make better decisions.

Speaker 1:

Right? What is a Jim Rohn quote yesterday, and I said yesterday, you know, we do plan we do literally plan more our holidays, weekends. We do do more plans than life or or health and fitness, and it's mad. So if you're on the macros app, the new one we got, which is beta testing for turtle members only and by turtle members, sorry guys, I mean turtle members as in the ones paying 39 point a month. You know, you can you can swipe up swipe up.

Speaker 1:

You can, swipe across and give yourself more macros in the weekend, and that'll help. So, you know, you can kind of have more of an allowance in a few taps. But other than that, it's all trial and error. That's all I can say. Enjoy yourself.

Speaker 1:

If you can unlock enjoying yourself to the max and keep your health and fitness improving your health and fitness, that that's it. That is the golden egg. How do we get there? Well, it's individual to all of us because we've all got different kind of priorities and stuff for me. It'd be interesting to know from you a lot really how how you've all start how you've all been trying to manage your social scenarios and stuff like that because I think what's COVID's done is COVID's made us take a step back and go, do you know what?

Speaker 1:

Those continuous weekends of drinking, drinking, drinking, were they really what I wanted to do? Like, it's just what we ended up doing. And we've been able to take a step back and go back in slow. We're actually noticing maybe we preferred the waking up earlier. Sorry, waking up early in a might be COVID guys.

Speaker 1:

Waking up early on a Sunday and spending more time having that full Sunday to ourselves in the weekend knowing we're going back to work on Monday. You know, lot of people have realized that's better. They'd rather go on their cycles and hikes and stuff. I don't know. There's no right and wrong.

Speaker 1:

But I do think there is a point where we do realize alcohol whilst you're you've been you've been decent over the years, but also been terrible to me, that ultimately, it is a social lubricant. And when you do become more confident in yourself, you don't really need it. The reality, you don't really need it. It's nice to nice to do and, you know, whatever, but I don't think we need to drink alcohol. I think once you understand you don't need to drink it, and you get the social vibes anyway and no one's gonna judge you, think that's very freeing as well.

Speaker 1:

But that's it guys, I've ranted enough about this topic, but it is also always important to remind yourselves on Fridays going into the weekend, it is your choice what you do, if don't go in blind like a blind bat going in oh I can't believe it happened again, yeah yeah yeah I believe it happened again, always happens and just try and do your best to eliminate the you know end quote damage. And if you do that, you know, you're fifty, sixty, 70 percent there from limiting weekends ruining hard work through the week. But you just you just gotta have that little extra bit of willpower and the ability to say no to some of your friends who are asking you to go down a bottle of wine like whatever it is. You just gotta say some no's. This is all it is.

Speaker 1:

If you think about it, gotta say no a few more times on the weekend and you will be in a much better position. That is it. If you put it down on paper, it's as simple as that. But enjoy yourself. Support Wales with Switzerland tomorrow.

Speaker 1:

Okay? I want you all to post your Welsh photos, flags, research Wales, everything, learn some Welsh, whatever you can do to support us. We need it. And England are playing Scotland next Friday. So if any of you needed a plan to go and watch that game on a Friday, everyone's gonna be booked out unless you kind of maybe might find some booking spaces now.

Speaker 1:

That's just to remind you. I know most of you don't care, but atmosphere, guys. Atmosphere. I say enjoy your weekend, and I'll speak to you Monday. And that's it.

Speaker 1:
