Is anxiety our friend and more stories from the Turtle Troop!

Speaker 1:

Hello friends, hello friend here, how are you doing this morning? Hope you're off to a good start here. Before I get into this voice, want to talk a bit more of some member success stories. I want to raise something maybe helpful maybe not. Saw Louise yesterday always have a lovely chat with her.

Speaker 1:

Top anxiety, so obviously Louise has anxiety from what's happened. People have anxieties of things and we always see anxiety that's really bad. We always have this word anxiety as a negative therefore if I have anxiety I'm fighting against the anxiety because it's a negative thing. But actually when you think about it, anxiety is like your friend and they're trying to protect you and you get more anxiety sometimes when the really bad stuff happen because it's now over vigilant. So we think about it, anxiety is on the watch out, it's trying to think past, it's trying to protect you in a sense.

Speaker 1:

So you see anxiety as a friend and when it does rage and sometimes it's under control of I understand that but some for the moderate anxiety we get, you can look at it and go I'm okay, thanks for letting me know but I'm okay. Because you can kind of see their anxiety is just there to try and help protect us because back in the day it's something gatherers and all this stuff. If something bad happens to you by that tree over there and then you walk through days and you go back and you see our tree again anxiety goes off. Wait, woah, woah, there something about Avenue before? Then we can speak to it and say, hey, thank you so much for letting me know, I get it but this time's different, you know, it's safe or whatever.

Speaker 1:

So we try and rationalize it when we can. And I think seeing anxiety as our little friend is a bit too protective at times maybe because in this world is a need to be overreactive like it is. But if we can see that no fight there it pops up, hey how are you doing? Yeah it's fine, thanks for letting me know I can see, I can see it's good, I'm good. And then no fight.

Speaker 1:

I think I don't know if that's gonna work for you. Something we'd have a chat about. Maybe it is useful to see it as something that's just trying to help you. But other than that guys, let's go straight in now to some transformations from our members and their story. So Ali Finsham amazing story 50 pounds off and reverse diabetes.

Speaker 1:

Incredible. So Ali set out to lose 50 pounds before birthday. On her fiftieth birthday she achieved that and she also had a conversation with the diabetes nurse and doctors and she actually reversed her diabetes. That's incredible Ali, incredible. Okay so what she says is, remember we can achieve hard things.

Speaker 1:

Back in Jan twenty twenty I was a size twenty four morbidly obese, desperately unhappy and consistency is everything, little gains really do add up. I'm actually buying my holy wardrobe for March because nothing fits me anymore which is an amazing feeling. Okay? So think of that big goal to start with Ali in Jan twenty twenty and he'd lose 50 pounds, I wanna lose 50 pounds in this and that. And to do it like a year later, yeah, to do it in a time it's not too far in the future, you know, like twelve to eighteen months really isn't that long.

Speaker 1:

But we think, oh my God, no way you're gonna do that. But when that time's past you look back, wow, only a year ago, you think wow, have changed so much in a year. Isn't it weird that we see it as ahead of us as such a long journey, we look back and like last year I flew by, like the difference to me. So Ali you're a testament to the small gains adding up and it's amazing to see you glowing with your new results and new health essentially. So Christina, three and a half stone down.

Speaker 1:

So her mindset's completely changed she says she looks at her mental health in a completely different way. She expresses her emotions, she's learned to read, she's learned to understand stoicism, she has read books for the first time that aren't fiction, She's got a really positive relation with food whereas before she never had that. She would binge eat, eat anything and everything. Okay, so she's done the martial arts, the dance and strength, built an amazing mindset and learned how to deal with mental health in a completely different way. She's journaled, she's run two races.

Speaker 1:

Okay. Think of all those achievements in a short space of time. Time is gonna pass by anyway, what are we gonna fill her with? And that's what you know, Christina's gone to work. All these amazing things happen and we look back and we go wow, I've come so far.

Speaker 1:

You know, think of Octagon one, it was in the first lockdown, which is two years ago, right? Well, nearly it's not even two years ago, it's coming up to two years ago. It is not that long in time, but it feels like a long time. God, it's a lot in those two years. Achieved so much, achieved so much and you know if people are listening, who are feeling stuck in a rut, then just start now.

Speaker 1:

We start now, we build. Time's gonna pass eventually you're gonna look back, oh god I started now, the best time to start is now. Amelia, one of the things that first struck me when I started getting on calls and seeing other people in the community was the number of reasons why people joined Turtle and the diversity of that. There were people obviously who wanted to lose weight, gain weight, get stronger, understand the relationship with food, also mental health, get organized, feel less stressed, learn about stosis and of course the amazing community and just meet new friends so many reasons. My main thing about Turtle is that it's just not a one size fit all there's so much variety.

Speaker 1:

It doesn't really matter what your motivation is for joining there is so much variety and you're well supported by the community and by all the experts. Is really, it is about it fits into your life and whatever you want from it. 100%, 100. I love the fact it's so diverse in terms of age groups as well. Because we don't really speak to people different age groups.

Speaker 1:

Leave again adult life, you might in work, we don't really spend that much to work with people different age groups. It sucks, there's so much to learn from different age groups young and old wherever. Said a Blatchford, moved to The UK and joins Turtle to find a community that she loves. She moved back to Australia, other side of the world is still a member. So she, I joined Turtle just after I moved to The UK from Australia and I was feeling really lost and finding how to connect with people in the same time zone as me during lockdown and that is exactly what I found through Turtle.

Speaker 1:

I can't overemphasize enough just how amazingly kind, open, and vulnerable people have been. I since have moved back to Australia and I can definitely say that you can use this program no matter where you are. I found it just as easy to remain connected while I am back here in Australia. So if you're not in The UK and you are worried about that you can definitely fit this program in any way that you like and it's totally doable if you're moving around and traveling. Romana Ross struggled with macros at the start, understands macros now, surprised how little protein she was eating.

Speaker 1:

Okay, she can meet with the moderation. She attempted challenge, every challenge is Christmas twenty nineteen and Octagon is her favorite and this is what she says, The thing I struggled with most at the start was macros. I had never looked at my food in terms of carbs, fat and proteins having been someone that had done other diet plans before based on the point system. Getting my head around what was actually in the food that I was eating and just how little protein I was eating, how much carbs. That was quite surprising but it didn't take me long maybe a few weeks then once I got my head around with macros were and how they worked it was pretty good for me.

Speaker 1:

Enjoying the freedom of being able to have what I want when I want within moderation. Boom, Romana. That's what we're all about. Melania Batisten, didn't didn't join because she was overweight. She's always been skinny however I never felt really well in my body.

Speaker 1:

So she said I didn't know anything about nutrition, did not know if I was doing the posture during the exercises, you didn't know the form was right. With turtle I understand I can eat basically anything that I like within moderation and of the body that I want. And that really is at the basis of this guys, you can look at all the science, it's clear the science backs this up. You can go in as deep as you want to all these things and oils and that stuff but the reality is there is a few things needed to take. You need to lose weight to be in a calorie deficit and you just need to hit your protein, get the food from whatever you want.

Speaker 1:

If you really wanted to simplify it that simply and people go you can't say you're a spar, you're gonna tell people eat junk food. No we're not saying that, we're saying you can and you can have a decent amount of ultra processed foods as well and it's fine in moderation, that's the key word. But of course fitness can't be that simple in terms of what's to be done because it has to be complex with a keto diet and this and that. But actually it's the basics we need to get right and the freedom we get from that because there's nothing more, there's no more depth. Of course it's good to know more details about nutrition and training and all this stuff and I think it's essential because you have that background knowledge.

Speaker 1:

But for people listening who are struggling with it, eat the food you love, hit your macros, well as long as you eat your protein, come with a new calorie goal, job done, get your steps in and drink water. If it's easy to do, it's easy not to do, that is the problem. Tiff Tracy, the pilot. I originally wanted to lose weight however since losing weight through the original challenge which felt amazing, I've come to that actually there's been so much more to my turtle journey. It's the other facets that it brought me that actually hold the most dear.

Speaker 1:

Part of that has been meeting the most incredibly supportive and amazing bunch of people that I call amongst my best friends now. There's always someone there 20 that you can reach out to whenever you're going and that is just invaluable. As well as being around so many like minded individuals to support you at any time. Amazing. Mindset is another thing.

Speaker 1:

I'm definitely still a work in progress even after all this time, but I know I have the tools and no matter how many times I fall off the wagon with it I can go back to them and just start again of course. I can't speak highly enough about the challenge like Octagon with all its facets and you might join with one item in mind such as losing weight, but you'll soon come to realize that actually there is so much more value working on Your mindset, your education with nutrition, learning new things about running for instance or just getting gripped with yoga, pilates and learning about strength because I can't speak highly enough about strength either. Learning new things that you didn't think were important has actually been the best education for the last two years. I love it. Okay guys Becky Gorgans, take it one day at a time there's no quick fix.

Speaker 1:

Guys classic, this is the truth. Take everything one day at a time it is incredibly easy to think things aren't changing as the way I want to or as fast as I want to and you want a quick fix those things just don't exist. A quick fix does not exist. So just stay consistent and make sure you do not think what the day make sure you do just think what day that you're in another that makes things feel a lot more achievable. Consistency over motivation, you're not going to feel motivated every single day to set out your one big thing and as long as you can achieve that even if it's just drinking the water you set out to drink that day and you've been successful.

Speaker 1:

Bang on. Take the smaller ones as well you're not going to be 100% all the time. Natalie Paris, the support is incredible from the coaches and the founders it's literally there on hand all the time and it's real. It's not email based it's face to face meetings. Yes, it's face to face meetings.

Speaker 1:

There are Zooms, are so many opportunities for you to get involved and to meet new people and just feel that you're well and truly supported through the program. Even if you're giving it a little bit of thought about joining, join the challenge it starts at the end of Jan, trust me, you will not regret it. It will be one of the best things you've ever done. And it's important that she raises an important point there Natalie about so you know a lot of people say they give you one to one support and it's just an email support. Like whilst we offer email support.

Speaker 1:

The most the the toughest thing as people is face to face Zooms, face to face meetings. It's difficult, you're talking to human beings live, know there's pressure on there but it means you have to get deeper than just the superficial levels of health and fitness. It means that we actually chat as a human to human. That's what it's all about. That's how we get to learn about people.

Speaker 1:

That's why things missing. I know I've done Facebook Lives and stuff, but there's something about Facebook Lives that feels a bit it's just comments. There's something about Zooms and when a chat gets going and it's just the energy after a Zoom. And after you do an amazing Zoom session, like a book club, a weekly review, a training seminar, psychotherapy session or whatever and it's an energy the conversation has been great, this is an energy to it. Like I think good conversation is good for the soul no matter if it's a nice conversation to be part of other human beings that we just talk about real stuff.

Speaker 1:

That's what the purpose is like turtles like a school, it's like a philosophical school in a sense like weight loss and stuff is part of the school because of course we want to be healthy in the body, right, so we want get strong. But also the mindset as well and other stuff and learning and being students of the game all the time. And being open minded, like you know speaking to predominantly women for the last two years on Zooms of course opens my mind even I've got a twin sister. And being able to actually take feedback, accept, you know not be offended by it, but of course at the same time we've got a conversation can be you know back and forth and I think that's the great thing that's trust that is where you can just talk and say what you think and someone can say do know what I don't agree with that but this is my point of view and that's a big deal as well. Being able to have discussions like that because that's based on trust essentially.

Speaker 1:

So guys I can't recommend like if I go weeks without having a good chat with someone It really it drives me insane, it really does like I think having good chats is a big part. If I were to write down what would make me that I need mentally, need a mental stimulation, I need to have good conversation and not something we chat about wherever. It could be just banter and laugh and life and all but I can't just be having superficial conversation day in day out. Know for a fact I'd feel I'm not going to use the word depression because that's for actual people with depression, but feel sad. I would.

Speaker 1:

And I think with Churchill I hope we give you plenty of chances as a human to chat to other human beings who actually want to listen and care and help you. That's the gold. We want to help you, we care, we're listening, we're not just trying to have a monologue back and forth with someone else. And I'll finish off with Vanessa G. It was the octagon challenge that was the game changer for me and the things I've learned from my challenge are things that I'm going to take forward for the rest of my life.

Speaker 1:

If it's something that you're thinking about doing I would say 100% sign up it would be the best investment in yourself you'd ever make. And I'm gonna finish this. We can put on all the tools, the information, but you have to invest in yourself, have to put the time in. If you put the time in with us, we're putting the time in for you. Ten weeks, you'll be surprised what you can achieve in ten weeks.

Speaker 1:

I'm not saying this is a rushed approach, I'm saying you'll be surprised at what can happen mentally in ten weeks. Everything can change for you in ten weeks, everything is true. Some people go to a day seminar and it changes their life, right, because they talk to people and flip flips the switch. Ten weeks can do something even bigger then you can go on. Amazing, but guys we're not too far away from Octagon now.

Speaker 1:

I'm really, really excited for it. I'll be doing another webinar about it soon. But hopefully this voice note give you some inspiration for members who've gone all these stories, I'm going share more and more stories as they come in. But I love hearing real stories from our members, I love it. I love the fact that I, know, all these things, places, people are from different accents, different backgrounds, different jobs, many different struggles, overcoming them, picking up reading, picking up stoicism, stuff like this.

Speaker 1:

I love it. Much better than someone, the weight is awesome, weight loss is great, because for most people who need it, there's way more to it. There's way more to life. We can achieve a lot in ten weeks and there's enough to be fat loss either. So guys enjoy your day.

Speaker 1:

Like Becky says, get your one big thing done. If it's something you haven't been doing, you hold it off, it could be you haven't done a workout yet this week, that's the goal today, workout only, boom, success. You want me to track any macros, track your macros today, boom, that's it, success. You've got loads of work to do, to do list, get better, get bigger, just get it done, got a tax return, get it done. You need to file that report.

Speaker 1:

You need to send that letter. Whatever is is niggling. Just get it done. Move the needle. Boom.

Speaker 1:

Boom. Get it done. Day success. End off. Commit to less.

Speaker 1:

Complete more. And I'm off. Speak tomorrow.
