Not tracking for 7 weeks, what happens?

Speaker 1:

Good morning, everybody. Now, I did a fresh podcast yesterday, but the audio was terrible. So I can't even remember what I said. Right. So it went on for a good twenty minutes.

Speaker 1:

So let's see if we can recreate in this one, but it's been a while. I know you've all been doing the masterclass which are, I think, some of the best podcast episodes because they are covering nutrition and mindset. So, if you haven't done them, you can go back through them one each day after another fourteen days and then, you know, they should help you get back on track and into tracking and into the mindset and all that stuff. But I hope you've been good. I hope you've all been good.

Speaker 1:

You know, I've been away now, I'm on week seven, mixing work and travel and, you know, one big thing I've realized from this is like, when I do get back to London, there's definitely more flexibility for me to change my schedule, you know. Sometimes it'd be a bit like, yeah, need to work in the morning and fresh and then I'll leave the gym till later and I'll be very structured with very, very long hours. But this is going to show me, like, I've done that one big thing with work every day. Like, just, Scott, what can I do today? Right?

Speaker 1:

Coffee, heads in the game, what's the main thing I can get moving the needle now? I'm doing that and then the day feels a lot easier and then maybe I'll do more later on. But I've been loving writing postcards, guys. I've sent at least 50 postcards out, so I hope you like them. A lot of thoughts going into them, some poems out to some of you.

Speaker 1:

I've been doing some poems when I feel inspired, so happy days. And, well, really, Tom, I just said in mindset chat with Dean so he's back, which is awesome. And we spoke a bit about courage, you know, leaving jobs, going traveling, doing these things that we want to do and, you know, promotions and all the stuff and the classic saying is well, and their fortune favors the brave, you're not going to get any fortune or luck sitting on your ass on the couch or not taking any risks, that's just the reality of this world. If there was a law, we've got laws of physics but maybe that is a law of luck or law of fortune, is if you don't move there is no luck, there is no fortune. So we have to make moves, whether that's in everything, work, life, relationships, all sorts of stuff.

Speaker 1:

You gotta make moves and you don't know what's gonna happen. But it's better to make a move and fail than ever make a move. So if that resonates at all, let me know. But it does definitely resonate for me. But in regards to what I've learned on this trip, a lot for me is, again, it's been seven weeks.

Speaker 1:

I was training frequently when I was in London. My macros were great, on point, I was tracking, you know, I had access to The UK database. It was easy peasy for me, hitting my macros, my protein was up there. And when I started going away, you know, I found it relatively easy in Greece, I haven't tracked at all since being away, but Greece, you know, the Greek salads, there was like chicken fillet meals for mega cheap and every day I was having like Greek salad and chicken and Greek salad and chicken because I genuinely loved it. It wasn't because I was like, I need to eat chicken and veg but like it was just the Greek salad was phenomenal, the chicken was done amazingly well.

Speaker 1:

I was eating a lot of bread sometimes as well, drinking drinking sometimes but, you know, often going for the zeros. And I found, you know, that my physique was improving a bit as the time was going on and, you know, I got to a stage that, wow, like, you know, this is easy for me and I've been tracking macros for like over a decade, so you could say that I'm intuitively eating now. I don't really like the word intuitively eating because I'm more so being conscious of what I'm eating. So it's not just automatically happening, whilst it kind of does, but I'm still consciously picking things that I know are gonna be better macro wise and I'm still gonna enjoy. So like small tweaks here and there make a big difference, right?

Speaker 1:

And, but what I have realized since going on, like going to Italy, Greece was easy. Right? And then you get to Italy and you're like, okay, a lot of pasta dishes, la la la. Then you get to France and even even harder. Right?

Speaker 1:

There's even, you know, there's no way I'm getting any sorts of protein in. I'm not going on the streets, they're crying, scratching walls, give me protein. I'm not doing that stuff but, you know, I'm going to shops and stuff and I'm trying to not keep spending loads of money but go to shops and go, what can I buy today for snacks and all that? And I've literally not had any protein snacks possible for ages and I've found that I get a lot of my protein from snacks. My shape, my body now is different to what it was when I started.

Speaker 1:

However, is it a massive difference? No, I have been taking photos to document it. I might do a post about it just to show but my physical body, I've accepted it. There's London Scott, right, where I'm on it, on track. There's Greek Scot where there's the meals that are a bit easier, still good.

Speaker 1:

There's there's Italian Scot, you know, lot of pasta, more way more bloated. There is the French Scot, you know, on the baguettes. And, you know, there's me, there's not some places I've been able to train, some places I have been able to train, and really I've just been taking up be water philosophy that Bruce Lee talks about, and just go with the flow in terms of, like, you know, go with what's going on. Like, I've I haven't been in conflict at all on this holiday. No once have I wished or felt pain from the fact that I can't have my London structure on this trip.

Speaker 1:

Not once. And I think a lot of us fall into that traffic going all day. I wish there was a gym here. I wish I could hit my macros. I wish it But you can't maybe.

Speaker 1:

And if you can't, there's nothing you can do about it. But then what's the next step, you know? And just because I'm heavier, I've gained some fat, fluffier, don't look the same as I did in London or the start of the Greek part. That's not a bad thing either. There's different versions of me, different places, different times, different scenarios and I'm happy with that.

Speaker 1:

I am being like water or like being, you know, what's the the bamboo being pliable in the wind and all that stuff, you know, all these kind of old wisdom telling us to be flexible, there's a lot of truth to it. Because if we're rigid, trying to bring that rigidity and also my definition of fun like is very open or like my fulfillment each day differs. Like, if I were to have said if I go away, I must do my must fill my days with as many things as possible to enjoy, right? That's what a lot of people think when they go away on holiday. I must go on holiday, I must drink as much as I can, eat as much as I can, do as many pleasurable stuff as I can, otherwise I haven't made the most of it and it's a complete lie and a lot of fitness influencers and these other guru influencers are telling you like, you know, go out, go nuts, go and just come back and then happy days and it's like, why why is it that people think, and it's a hell of a lie, why is it that people think that for you to have fun you must max out everything and by maxing out we never enjoy because we go too far.

Speaker 1:

You know, if you had your favorite chocolate cake in front of you, right, and you had a few bites, gorgeous, stunning. But then if you became Bruce Bogtrotter and started demolishing the entire thing, by the end of it you'll hate the thing you've eaten. So that thing that you loved and give pleasure, well, love is a strong word, you'll give you pleasure, ten minutes later you despise him, right? So there's no truth in maxing out everything to make the most of a trip and I found that I need to be very flexible with that as well, like some days I'll be in a place where there are a few more things to do and I go for a walk and explore. Some days I've literally just sat on a bench, some random, done some journaling, gone to work in a random cafe, got a few postcards, did a few writing her out, know, speak to a few people in the cafes, have a chat, have a laugh and, you know, not actually done anything much, you know.

Speaker 1:

And I've been in places where I felt like, oh, I have to do something new. So one night I was my first night in the gorgeous Di Va John area, which has got all these like amazing things to do, I just sat in for a bit and I rested and I didn't do anything. That was fine as well. For me at the time, I enjoyed it and it was right and I didn't feel like I should I've you know, you do get those urges like, oh, you should be doing that right now. I should be doing this now.

Speaker 1:

Some people think I'm on the best phone or I should for me to think I'm on the best phone. But it's not true. So even with regards to that, I've been very, very just being like water in that regards, and this has worked wonders, like, just taking it in my stride and enjoyed the process way more. My stress levels have been low. And maybe that's what helps as well with the physique because your stress levels are low, you're walking about, you're smiling more, you're relaxed, you know, all this stuff and it all comes together.

Speaker 1:

And I've been away for seven weeks, like, you know, it's a long time. Seven weeks to be off off off routine that you would have back home. So that's really what I would take. So guys, even back in in your solid routines and work and all are, like, summer's coming up, like, have to be flexible. We cannot be rigid, and we don't have to max out everything to act like we're enjoying because pleasure isn't happiness like.

Speaker 1:

What a false what a false conclusion that is. If pleasure is happiness, then let's just eat food all day. Let's just go to, you know, go out all the time. But we know that's not true. The people that do all the time aren't happy.

Speaker 1:

So, yeah, that's kind of my overview of the travel. I don't know if it helps in any any way, shape or form, but you gotta know thyself. Again, another classic one. It's resonates these things are resonating more more with me, like, know yourself. Know yourself, Scott.

Speaker 1:

Like, what what what is it that you want and like and enjoy? Okay? And am I enjoying any of these doing them for other people? Being brutally honest with that. When I said, that's all you gotta do.

Speaker 1:

Know yourself. Like, I remember about a week ago, I went to a cafe and I said to the French guy waiter and I was like, can I have a do you do any of those Heineken zeros or any zero alcohols? And he went, no. No. No.

Speaker 1:

Where where are you from? I said, Wales in in Great Britain. He goes, you you guys drink a lot? You don't drink? I was like, yeah.

Speaker 1:

People do drink a lot in Britain, but I just want the zeros now. I don't want to drink. And it's like, there was no reaction from him. He's like, oh, we don't have them. Like, shock.

Speaker 1:

And, you know, some people would be like, am I weird for that? Am I losing? Like, no, he is weird because his only thing, definition is if I'm gonna get a drink and I'm from Britain, I must be drinking alcohol, like, come on you come on, what are you doing? What are on about? You're more of a loser for being stuck into this system, you think you have to be drinking all the time to enjoy, you have to keep eating all the stuff to enjoy, You know, that's yeah.

Speaker 1:

So that's up on the trip front. And on the topic as well, like, know yourself and all. I think once you do understand who you are, things are just a lot easier and nicer to live. Like, I know exactly who I am. And my friends and everybody's on the WhatsApp me the other day, WhatsApp call.

Speaker 1:

And he was like, mate, like, if you were to see if you were seeing your stories, you just think you're an old man away. When you see a display photo, you're like a gym bro, and it's like, just judge you. But then actually there's this old man away and he's like, I actually love it. And then he's like, he's an old man doing stories. Like, yeah, well, maybe it is like, but I'm I'm doing it for me.

Speaker 1:

I know it's a cliche and people say I'm doing it for me, but genuine, I'm like, if I if I cared what people thought about stuff like that, I like posting random stuff about history and castles or just random facts or silly stuff that people might be like, that's a bit gimpy or whatever they they think, right? Like, you lose all curiosity for things that really do make you curious and interesting. Like that train guy, you know, that I can't remember his name, Francis, the train guy. He put pictures up of him trying to fit into the life of a normal Londoner, going out and stuff and he's miserable and then he's like put these videos up of him loving trains and there's no doubt people have said you're a weird omeg when you marry a train all that stuff but he genuinely finds it fascinating, he's curious about it And he and that curiosity led him to keep exploring and look at him now. And I think curiosity is what has led me to these things, reading and curious about these people must happen.

Speaker 1:

He's curiosity, and then I'll meet these amazing people on the way and and, you know, just speaking to lots of people in different cultures and it's just all under this curiosity, these little things, these things that, yeah, some people might find weird, but who cares? You like it, you enjoy it, go into it, go deep into it, learn about it. Don't be ashamed of being, you know, having curiosities that aren't the norm, you know, and I think a huge lesson in that, huge lesson in that. So I I do I do there's the word implore. I do implore you all to go down the curiosity route and if you don't feel like you're curious about anything, you might be worrying too much about what people think you should be curious about.

Speaker 1:

You might be trying to conform too much. Think like childlike, what you're really into as a child, what you're really into, what could you read about right now and if it's still nothing, like, have you been desensitized to being curious about things, just following the crowd? Like start reading about stuff, just go into a biography of someone you really, really look up to and look at the biography and you'll find a lot in biographies, lot about their life, their past, the people they've met, the books they've read, big influences and they take you down rabbit holes. You know, so be curious and go through those rabbit holes and keep going And you'll never know what it takes you. It might take you on a trip somewhere, it might take you to read another book, it might take you to email out to someone, whatever it is.

Speaker 1:

They lead to something that will take you make your life a bit more fulfilled, think. Because you find out who you are then. You start finding out who you really are. But, yeah, that's it really for today, guys. I didn't wanna touch too much.

Speaker 1:

I know I talked about nutrition and stuff and being away, but I didn't wanna talk too much heavily about that. We got some we got a Q and As with Doctor P. We've got studies myth busting with this guy, this doctor that's quite big on Instagram so we're gonna have him on June the same to do live Q and A. He's got a master's in nutritional research so knows a lot about this stuff and he'd be able to share some of his wisdom and tips and all that with us, which is great. If you have any questions, do let me know.

Speaker 1:

They can ask him. And, yeah, that's it. I think use this as a prompt as always, like, all we can do is we've only got the now. Right? I said it before, I can't remember if it was on the radio, but I send it to Louise in the postcard is when you've got loads of dishes to wash, then you've got a 100 dishes to wash and you start washing them, and then on the left side you've got simply dirty dishes, on the right side you've got, you know, whatever the number is, 29 clean dishes, but the only dish you ever actually hold at the time is the dish in the sink.

Speaker 1:

That's the only dish you can actually wash with your hands at the time, so it doesn't matter how many dishes there are before the dirty ones, matter how many dishes there are cleaned. All you can do is clean the dish in front of you, that one dish. And this is how we see our days, this is we traveling, this is how we see all of this stuff. Once you get this, and I mean it, once you get and see this way of living, because the the only thing that the only reality is now, that's it. I know you hear about it all the time, it might be getting on your nerves, like, now is in the past and present, like, the only thing is now.

Speaker 1:

That's the only reality we have right now. That's it. Tomorrow is right now again, tomorrow versus the tomorrow and past is, you know, psychological inventions of time. So really understand that, like if there is only the now, right, if there is only the now, we need some bit more urgency about living, not rushing but a bit of urgency. You feel a bit demotivated, you got to wive the motivation, wive of sadness, whatever.

Speaker 1:

Stick with this, stay with it, don't fight it, don't try and accept it or decline it, just sit with it, and it's a fleeting thing that doesn't it's just an automatic thing that pops up, it doesn't mean anything. Sit with it and it will disappear, right, and then you have this wave of energy again. So just sit in the now, even take things down to the one simple task, one big thing, one task, do what's in front of you, that's the only thing you can do. If you find your mind going in the past in the future, it's distracting you from doing the only thing you can actually do right now, which is action immediately, and use this as a prompt to do that action, whether it's I haven't tracked in a while, let me track my breakfast now, I haven't done a workout, go and do it now, go for a walk, I've got a work task, it's in the back of my head, just start on it now, no phone, get off the phone, just start typing, I need to mess with someone else, just message them right now, you know, just stop messing about, just do it because there's only now we have and then now is where action lies.

Speaker 1:

So take action now. Hello. Happy days. Happy days. Moncier Napoleon de Fleurs is out.
