Past success stories and what we can learn from them

Speaker 1:

Good morning everybody, new week, new day, new twenty four hours, let's go. So this voice note I'm going to talk about a few success stories from previous challenges and the mindset people had before them and then what happened after them. So you can see how most of us are always thinking that we can't achieve something or we think that something's not gonna work. We already go into new things with a very pessimistic mindset. But is that what we really should be doing?

Speaker 1:

Because I think if we put our mind to things we can get more done than we think 100%. Sometimes we overestimate what can be done in a short space of time but over like twelve weeks to a year, two years you'd be very shocked at the difference in your life if you started implementing the right habits now. So the first one's about Jackie Gilbert or Jacqueline Gilbert. So Jackie since the Octagon one has lost over a 100 pounds, right, and she hasn't gone back to gaining all our weight back, which is a massive success. And Jackie was saying before Octagon one she was struggling with anxiety, stress, history of depression.

Speaker 1:

So she says, and I'll quote her, at the start, I really struggled with a sense of hopelessness. I didn't believe it was going to work for me. I signed up on a whim and I almost committed to fail deep down. Since joining Turtle I've lost over 100. I went from a size twenty to a size ten and that is all for the amazing community and the coaching and the program that we follow through Turtle.

Speaker 1:

Not bad for someone who believed they weren't gonna do any good right? So the thing is here is she still ate the food she liked in moderation. Moderation, she became a runner right after thinking it wasn't for her or you know history of sports came back into it. She inspired countless other people to keep going. She had a newfound confidence that helped in many other areas of her life and especially, imminent, especially like shows in a bad company build off.

Speaker 1:

So she's doing well with that confidence, bringing another turtle support, and she's made friends for life within the community. Right? So she says this has been extraordinary change for me because I've been identified as being overweight my entire life and I have now kept most of that weight off for two years. So it's not been a yo yo dieting experience for Jackie even after going losing so much weight. She's built a lifestyle that works for her and as a support of the community to keep her there.

Speaker 1:

Not only has she lost weight, kept it off. That's the magic. And she says it's just become a natural healthy way for me to live and live, effortless with this lifestyle, and it's been game changing. Okay. So here's Jackie's piece of advice for you as well.

Speaker 1:

If you can sign up for Octagon or just in general, dial in and show up. It's all on Zoom. That's all you have to do is click and you're in the session. Number two, by joining up and turning up, what you were doing is saying that you are worth investing in. Love that.

Speaker 1:

By showing up for me, I ended up becoming a better version of me, and I'm really delighted that we have the chance to replicate something that's been so game changer for me. Okay? So that's Jackie's story. For resonance with you, make sure you're getting ready for Octagon. Starts two weeks today.

Speaker 1:

This is number two and it's from Joey. It's about impostor syndrome. So do you feel like you're a fraud? Do you belittle anything you achieve? Do you think it's all down to luck?

Speaker 1:

Do you experience? Are you a people pleaser? Procrastination? Love and perfectionism? Do you feel inadequate?

Speaker 1:

Believe you're not worthy? Do you feel like you can't do anything? You play down all your power. And this is a lot of us thinkers. Okay?

Speaker 1:

Joey felt, I guess, before Octagon one where she thought it was never possible for her to run a 10 k. She said, no way is I'm the type of person that's gonna run a 10 ks. But here's what she says. When I saw the 10 ks run at the end of it, I thought that's never gonna happen. But actually it did.

Speaker 1:

I ran the 10 ks at the end of the challenge and for me it was the best thing that could have ever happened because instead of thinking I can't do that anymore, now I think well actually, you know what, I can. If I put my mind to it, I focus, I listen, and I learn. Okay? So Joey's now gone from being like I'll never do it to doing something she thought she never could do. This is a springboard into confidence.

Speaker 1:

So we act and we build confidence from our own actions, experiences we think we can't do and we do them. The more we can collect these badges, the more confidence we have. Okay, you're to tune into mindset expert Dean Leek doing a challenge every morning. Learn from the best coaches and train with confidence and get the support from the entire turtle community. So if you feel like you're Joe, you can't achieve something, you think it's not possible, let's put her to the test.

Speaker 1:

Let's have a look. Let's try and do it. Let's give it ten weeks. Let's see what we can do. If after ten weeks you've tried your best day in day out, you've left no stone unturned and you still haven't been able to do it, maybe then we can say, you know what, maybe that isn't for you.

Speaker 1:

But the most of the cases it is possible. We just have to put our time to it, effort, support and I'll try and rush things. Okay? And this is on to the next point, there's Celine. Celine was an all or nothing person for years and years and years and this is what she says.

Speaker 1:

Celine says, the biggest struggle has been to let go of this all or nothing identity that I keep having, but that has been the biggest unblock for my mindset. Okay. When we're all when we're all or nothing, black or white thinking, this leads to catastrophe every single time. It does this because once you're not doing the perfect thing and you make a quote unquote mistake, hint, as human beings, we always make mistakes, you then go to the opposite side and do the and then just kind of ruin the entire thing. So for example, you're on a diet, you've been eating perfectly in, quote unquote perfectly for ten days, but your friend phones you and goes, let's go for lunch about a promotion.

Speaker 1:

You obliged by your anxiety is now through the roof as you don't wanna get off plan. She's happy. She orders drinks and a chocolate brownie, and you're fighting and resisting every single time. Since she's informed you, you've been sweating with anxiety. You don't wanna do it.

Speaker 1:

You've been fighting it. You're resisting. You eventually have a bit of a drink. I know you didn't overdrive. You have bit of a brownie as well.

Speaker 1:

Now you're the anxious. Now not only have you been anxious since the phone call to that moment where you've had a drink. Right? You've now gone, ah, f it. And you've had four more drinks.

Speaker 1:

You've had more cake and you end up having McDonald's later as well. You wake up the next day and you call yourself a failure, you hate yourself, you message people say you don't deserve to feel good and to be confident in your own skin. You now go back down a destructive path until you see another post about a quick fat loss diet and you end up trying again and The cycle repeats and repeats and repeats. If this sounds familiar, it does for many. You need to stop it right now.

Speaker 1:

You don't need to be on a perfect diet. You should enjoy having drinks if you want to drink. You should enjoy the foods you like, you can still get results and they last a lifetime if you keep to it like Jackie has. Right? You don't have to let dieting rule your mind, rule your ruin your life and drive anxiety sky high.

Speaker 1:

You don't have to, it doesn't have to be that way. And here's Celine's top tips. It all starts with mindset, the moderation in all aspects of life is key and it's also sexy to be moderate. Yes. And that there's magic to be found in joining the community of like minded people.

Speaker 1:

So the three tips and that's exactly what Octagon's gonna give you. Okay? And if that if that does sound similar to you, experiences, you know, we've got the I didn't know with Jackie kind of like in a rut not believing in herself hopelessness, nothing's ever gonna work whatever. I know everyone says their programs are different but our programs genuinely different. Okay.

Speaker 1:

And then you look at Joey thought she could never do a 10 ks but then she did. Boom. That's a life, that's a game changer. You know back, I can't remember the exact dates but nobody was ever able to run a four minute mile. They thought it was impossible for a human to run a four minute mile.

Speaker 1:

When someone finally did run a four minute mile, within the next few years hundreds of people started running four minute miles or less. Right. So there's a block in human consciousness where we think something's not possible but then once it is the flood gets open. This happens quite frequently across all types of domains like things not possible, someone does it and then there's the belief and that belief pushes people to go and keep going and they eventually break through. Yeah, so if you think of it that way, the turtle community is an amazing example of loads of people who thought they couldn't do you know whatever their version of the four Minute Mile was but they did it and then other people did it and everyone keeps doing it and now there's a group of people who are enjoying their lives, going out and eating foods, going on holidays, not letting it ruin their lives, know, not letting the weight dictate everything and there's hundreds of people in that mindset.

Speaker 1:

And when you're in a community like that, in a culture like that, that is you know a blessing essentially because it's hard to get a culture like that because the outside world society is completely different, it's the opposite. Like people always brag about the new diet they're on or the new like fat loss scheme, they're on fat loss pills, detox they're on, new blender they go on, new celery juice diet, you know all the nonsense. It's kind of like people just love talking about stuff, don't they? And, yeah, and I think, yeah, what is your four minute mile? I want you to think about that today.

Speaker 1:

What is your block that you think you can never do, never achieve, you think it's not possible for you? Is it a 10 ks run? Is it a marathon? Is it gaining muscle? Is it losing weight below certain, you you might want to lose two stone for example, but you've never been able to break that two stone barrier to get a two stone loss barrier.

Speaker 1:

You've never been able to hit your protein intake maybe. Like you've never been able to plan like Joey for example, idea popped in my head. Joey says she's not a planner. I'm not a planner she says. I don't plan.

Speaker 1:

Is that Joey's four minute mile? Again, a new one that she can be a planner. Let's see if we can do it. On this challenge, Octagon, believe it or not, I'm gonna learn to cook. Johnny Beck is coming in, top chef, thirteen plus years, had a meal prep company, has been doing, he is the coach's coach for food recipes, chef he's got loads of videos he's gonna share with us, loads of, recipe videos follow along, library of them.

Speaker 1:

He's gonna rate your plate every week and you're gonna send it in. We're gonna do the same recipes over the weekend. You know, we're have vegan options and, you know, non vegan options. And we're gonna learn to cook high protein meals, micronutrient dense, right, and we're gonna batch cook them and I'm pumped to actually learn how to do this. I said, I've always said all along once I turn my head onto it to be able to cook properly meals I'm gonna do it.

Speaker 1:

I just don't know why, it's come now, it's like I know I got someone like Johnny who's gonna be able to to teach me in the best possible way and I like that he's got the efficiency in mind because I don't wanna be cooking in the kitchen for three hours spending loads of money on all these different ingredients. Want effective delicious meals. I wanna know how to make them taste better. I want them to be high protein and I want to batch cook them. Now I've got this plan ahead of me with Johnny, all of you are going to have this.

Speaker 1:

I feel a real good feeling about being able to smash over the ten weeks. And that's my goal for the ten weeks is to be able to nail that and the knock on effect of me meal prepping again, because I used to do it back in the day but proper boring stuff for bodybuilding style. I know for a fact the fact that I'm gonna meal prep and I'm gonna hit my protein target even more consistently. And I know my training is gonna improve from it and my mindset's gonna feel a bit better. I'm on top of stuff.

Speaker 1:

I'm gonna save a lot of money. I'm gonna feel like I'm achieving something as well by learning new recipes, cooking, and be better than myself for learning a new skill that I haven't bothered touching in so long. And I'm just gonna feel a lot better and that's just from cooking, like all the other elements in the challenge. Know, I'm gonna do the strength workouts, know, obviously going to do the nutrition, it's course with Doctor. P, going to do all his seminars and learn everything from who, learn everything from David.

Speaker 1:

I'm going to learn from Emma's pre postnatal, Q and A's and stuff as well. You know, I'm going to learn from all the experts as much as possible. I'm going learn from Ryan Williams, I'm going learn from Dean. I'm going to learn they're all. Obviously, I'm not going to able to everything but the ones I do do and I'm going to read back and I'm gonna look at replays over time.

Speaker 1:

And I'm excited like the transformation of knowing all that information and applying it. And the two books for Book Club, the first book is Tiny Harbits by BJ Fogg, which is the original Harbits book. And then the second book will be The Art of Happiness by Donald Robertson which is a book about stoicism and CBT and modern day psychotherapy all combined into like how do we live a happy life basically using all that ancient wisdom plus modern So that'll be a really good read for us to go into after habits. So buy those books soon as. So ten weeks of learning, ten weeks of developing, ten weeks of building new skills, ten weeks of doing it with an amazing community, ten weeks of seeing new people, building new friendships, all this stuff.

Speaker 1:

How how good is that? How good is that? Ten weeks of seeing other people managing to break their own four minute four minute mile. I can't wait to see people going, oh, I'd love to do this after ten weeks. I can't wait to see the smile on their faces at week ten once they look back and I couldn't believe I've done this in ten weeks.

Speaker 1:

And I can't wait to see everybody at the end of challenge event and eventually we'll we'll plan it all out to be it'll be low key, more of a social thing. We'll definitely do something, get everyone together. And I can't wait to see everyone's faces. And you know what happens after that? After they know they, you know, like I've said this many times, fitness, health and fitness is a gateway to self improvement.

Speaker 1:

Because you can do it in a short space of time, can get strong, you can drop some pounds, you can improve your mindset relationship with food. Once you nail that you think I can do this. I can do this. What else can I do with this with my life? What about my career, my relationships?

Speaker 1:

And we've seen this with members gone off to start new businesses, gone and done those really hard conversations with their family members, left relationships that weren't serving them. A lot of people end up doing these things after they've got that confidence because they've started to do self improvement through health and fitness and then they know that can be springboard for other areas. And I can't wait to see what people end up doing after they get our newfound confidence and belief in themselves after the ten week challenge. And then 2022 is a big year for everyone. We don't have lockdown this time for Octagon.

Speaker 1:

It's gonna make it a bit more difficult for us to manage our times because we will be out and about but we've got replays. Okay, we don't have to make everything live. Okay, that's a demand that's not going to serve you. You can watch things in replay, you can still learn. Write out notes, get a notepad, ten weeks.

Speaker 1:

Let's go ten weeks of big time learning, big time developing, big time making new friends, and let's all celebrate at the end of the ten weeks. No pressure. We're not gonna compare ourselves. Someone's lost 10 pounds, someone lost 15 pounds. We only look at what we can do.

Speaker 1:

What are we doing from week one to week 10? So start getting your head in the game. We're two weeks away. Today's the day we're going to start building momentum. So no matter if you haven't even started in Jan and you're still feeling a bit, oh, not doing it.

Speaker 1:

Let's make sure we're not starting the Octagon from a standstill. Let's at least start it from a light jog because if we can start Octagon in two weeks time with a light jog, we'll get a lot more out of it. We'll be going into it with some vigor, some momentum. So that starts today, all of you. So do your one big thing.

Speaker 1:

Get that done right now. As soon as this voicemail finishes, whatever tasks you need to get done, don't wait, just do them. Don't go on your phone and spend half an hour and just do it. Don't fight in your mind. Don't stop building conflict between you and the task.

Speaker 1:

Just do what you need to do. You know what you gotta do. Build momentum. Get you one big thing done. Get your steps in.

Speaker 1:

Track your macros. No. Don't question it. Just just track. And let's start going.

Speaker 1:

Two weeks today we start. So guys have a good day, and I'll speak to you tomorrow.
