Profit From Your Losses
Welcome to the one day at a time podcast where we forget about yesterday. We don't worry about tomorrow. It's what are we gonna do today that's all the matters because you've only ever had or will ever have the fantastic twenty four hours a day you're about to embark on. So hopefully this episode is gonna give you some daily dose of wisdom that you can take action on today to improve your life. And remember, all it takes is one day at a time.
Speaker 1:Good morning. Good morning. I hope your week is going well. If not, you're gonna learn from it. You're gonna learn from it.
Speaker 1:Because this is a quote that I remind myself of frequently, right? And it's from Dale Carnegie. He says, the most important thing in life is not to capitalize on your gains. Any fool can do that. The really important thing is to profit from your losses.
Speaker 1:That requires intelligence, and it makes a difference between a man of sense and a fool. What do we mean by profiting from our losses? There's many there's many ways that this can go. Maybe you didn't lose the weight you wanted to, but then if you look back at the behaviors and stuff, there's some positives. Maybe there's some things you realized didn't go to plan.
Speaker 1:Maybe, you got injured doing an exercise and you're like, oh god, hate this. I've got injured. But then what you realize is I can double down on my macros and actually was I doing the exercise properly, maybe you won't be so kind of, you know, you'll focus more next time. For some examples of me, like, I got shunned of about $10 before because this guy told me that he was gonna help me, get investment or, like, sell a certain amount of, my company Rugby Warfare. But in the end, it was a scam, and he dumped me for $10, and the agreement was terrible.
Speaker 1:So, yeah, I lost money, but I profited from that loss because never ever since I've I've always used a solicitor to do any agreement and I've always run it past them. Even though it costs a bit more upfront, it's worth it. So that's definitely something I've profited from even though I lost money. Think about it. Think about other paths right.
Speaker 1:So obviously there's loads of things that don't go to plan in our lives but we need to profit from our losses because when we capitalize on the gains easy. Like how easy is it to train when you're motivated? It's easy. Like you just wake up, I feel motivated to do a workout. Amazing.
Speaker 1:That's great. Like anybody can work out when they're motivated. Anyone can do good work when they're motivated. But if that's once a week, once a month, what's that gonna do? You need to do stuff when you're not feeling the best.
Speaker 1:You profit from the losses, right? Yeah, don't know if if you're feeling a bit some of you feeling a bit down, I've seen some comments and all stuff and people are flying and people are not getting results in this Christmas challenge and stuff like that. So what I'd say to you is if you want to get out of this rut and this is going be like kind of definite advice, not going to do too many drooling stuff like I've spoken about before. But go and help someone else, go and do a good deed for someone else, go and share some knowledge of someone else you've learned from the community, go and speak to a friend that you think might need some help or advice or family member, just do a good deed, right? Because if you please others, right what happens is you stop thinking of yourself and when you stop thinking of yourself you know yourself is the very thing that produces worry and fear in your mind because you're always thinking about yourself me me me me me me me me me me me When you start thinking about someone else for a change, mind goes off, right?
Speaker 1:And you start thinking and you go then you've given your brain a chance to kind of just chill out and not focus on all the things that you think are going wrong in your world, right? Louise said she had the best sleep of her life after martial arts. One of the reasons is when you're doing martial arts and you're learning all these new moves for an hour or an hour plus, you're not thinking. You're not thinking about yourself or your ego or everything you think is going wrong. You're trying to do the move and it requires full attention.
Speaker 1:And then you realize time has flown by your minds had a chance to look at something else and you feel amazing. You've like unleashed this new load of energy and you have a good night's sleep. Right? So that's a tactic to do like obviously, I'm not a tactic, you should do a good day anyway, but you know, it is something you you can do if you are feeling down. You know I always used to think as a kid like when I was a social like going to like those like social clubs with the kids and I was like loads of volunteer mothers and my older sister was there and I was like why are you doing this for free like do know mean I was like why are you doing this for free on a Thursday night, Tuesday night and you're doing rounders with us and stuff to the right, like I don't understand.
Speaker 1:It's like they're doing it for free because they were helping us and they had they felt a great sense of achievement and they felt great for helping us because maybe that was them spending time out of their own work life, out of their own personal struggles and just helping people who they think that needs advice or just being absorbed in other people's lives for once and actually helping them. That's why they did it and that's why lots of people do volunteer and stuff is they feel good helping other people and it takes their mind off the self, the ego. So it's definitely something like we should look at right if you're if you are struggling. And there's another story in a book by Dale Carnegie talks, I'm not finishing this. There's this like wife and she's, you know, she's kind of like feeling a bit limp.
Speaker 1:She's just moving about the place. She answers the phones in bed. That's her job answering phones in bed. She's not moving. She's like, ah, ah, my legs hurt.
Speaker 1:Ah, I was feeling sorry for herself moving around. And then one day, Pearl Harbor, the attack on Pearl Harbor where the Japanese happens. Boom. Everything goes nuts. Luckily, her husband survived.
Speaker 1:Right? But loads of people died. Chaos there. She lived there, and it was an absolute carnage. Right?
Speaker 1:Then she got called up. She had to do the phones flat out because they were now in wartime. She was like what she realized was she started sitting up taking the phone calls, then she started standing up and then she was realizing actually I'm helping people here, helping people who was off to me. She was working in the emergency medical department things, sorting out beds, making sure people had like, you know, the people who lost others were there and supported and she was like on her feet. And then before she knew it, she was working ten, twelve hour days helping other people.
Speaker 1:And what she thought then, she was like, that's the best thing that ever happened to me. That's tragedy of Pearl Harbor is the best thing that happened to her. That's what she said. Obviously it's not a good thing that happened, but it's the best thing that happened to her. And she realised that she wasn't this like weak and fragile and just lazy person.
Speaker 1:Because a few days later she was on her feet like completely animated and full of life, right? But then she started helping other people. So are you walking around now? Like, why? Like, what are you waiting for?
Speaker 1:Like, why you wake up like, oh, I feel so sore. Why is that a bad thing? Like, let's change the mind, like, let's change the mindset on this. Like, if you feel we all do it, I do it. But when we wake up like, oh, so sorry.
Speaker 1:No. I feel so good workout. No. I feel good. Like, let's start changing her up.
Speaker 1:Let's get some energy in. Like, what are we are we playing about for? We know this is possible because I guarantee you if you're feeling all sluggish and stuff and I told you a piece of news you didn't wanna hear, maybe, I don't know, could be something like your enemy or your other business or, like, competitors did something. I don't know, it could be anything that got you like pumped, adrenaline rusher, you'd on your feet, boom, boom, boom. Something would trigger inside you, but that's always there.
Speaker 1:It's always there. It's never there. You activate it. You just need to realize, you know, some, you know, weak and fragile person. You can be this strong and animated person.
Speaker 1:You have to decide to do it. And you can do that first by helping other people. So the best way to learn is to teach as well, by the way. We can all be teachers, we can all teach what we learn from this like macros plan and martial arts and we can teach from the Q and As we do. We can send people articles or books that we've read and it's so fulfilling to be able to, with the book club, for example, people reading the same book and it's like people are loving it.
Speaker 1:You know, when we then read back the book to be able to make sure whether you know what we're on about, what I'm on about, I learn a lot more because I got my teaching mind on. I'm looking around all the time for things to teach or things that I can pass on to you guys. So I've got this, like, teaching mindset going on. And it's it's it's very fulfilling. Like, oh, this is good.
Speaker 1:This will be the you know what mean? And you can do that as well. So you can start thinking of how you can pass on things you're learning to other people, and you'll start feeling and actually you you do things that go beyond your ego and yourself. And that's it. So what are you waiting for?
Speaker 1:What are you moping about for? Get up. Do your one big thing today. What are you just sitting around for? Maybe you're walking.
Speaker 1:Have you got something to do? Are you going to do it? Don't go on your phone now and be on your phone for half an hour. Get off your phone. Just go and do something you need to do, the task you need to do.
Speaker 1:Go and do it. Go and do the workout. Do the job you need to do today. What are you you've only got twenty four hours a day. What are messing about for?
Speaker 1:Stop messing about. There's no time to mess about. Get it done. One big thing and happy days. You'll be living your you'll be living your best life, and you can only do your best.
Speaker 1:You can only do your best. That's all you can do. So you do your best today. That's all you can do ever ever. That's all you can ever do.
Speaker 1:Think about it. The only thing you can ever do is do your best today. Then you do it again the next day when it starts today. So do your best today. Do your one big thing.
Speaker 1:Get it done. See you in book club. If not, see you in yoga, martial arts Friday or whatever. But have a good day everyone. Remember, one day at a time.
Speaker 1:No mercy. And that's it. Thank you for listening to the one day at a time podcast with your host, Scott Fleer. Hopefully, you understood something I said. I hope that some wisdom kind of distilled through into your mind, and I want you to now action it today.
Speaker 1:I don't want you to think about tomorrow. I don't want you to think about yesterday. I don't want you to think about leaving a review on this podcast. I don't want you to think about going to another website. What I want you to do is as soon as this podcast ends, you will take action and make the most of today.
Speaker 1:Ground yourself today. Follow the one day at a time philosophy, and your life will change.
