The Big Day

Speaker 1:

Welcome to the one day at a time podcast where we forget about yesterday. We don't worry about tomorrow. It's what are we going to do today? This all matters because you've only ever had or will ever have the fantastic twenty four hours a day you're about to embark on. Hopefully this episode is going to give you some daily dose of wisdom that you can take action on today to improve your life.

Speaker 1:

And remember, all it takes is one day at a time. Good morning, It is Sunday with me, so I've just come back from the turtle event. I did leave my house keys in the Uber, I had to climb in my house. But I'm in. I'm on the mic, so don't you worry.

Speaker 1:

But today was unbelievable. We had our turtle run, over a hundred people I think. Look, COVID rules split into groups, the police did turn up but we were good. It was unbelievable seeing people basically meet after say Octagon last year. So everybody was able to They started a journey in Octagon, all helped each other out, opened up to each other like we probably don't open up to our actual mates and then got results, stayed together over the year, did another challenge, did Christmas, did another challenge and just being there for each other and then seeing that unfold in front of my eyes was unbelievable.

Speaker 1:

So thanks to everybody for coming. The day was all about you guys. Like I didn't feel any nerves or whatever for the day because I knew the day was about just seeing everybody, anticipating seeing each other that they've helped and motivated or like look up to since it started, that's what I was looking forward to and it didn't disappoint There was people like Jess Glouces saying she looked up to Sarah Shreds and Sarah Shreds was getting overwhelmed, it's amazing Then you had people looking up to Crystal, had people looking up to all kinds of people like, oh you inspired me, you inspired me, that's the main thing. And this community reminds me a bit about like, so when you go to school and you're forced to meet people and you like them, you start liking them but imagine you went to school and you knew everybody you were gonna meet you were basically gonna like right and then you had a chance to meet them so it was like a delayed school so you knew oh I'm gonna like all these people but I have to wait and wait and wait and then finally see them.

Speaker 1:

Unbelievable, think about it, unbelievable. And Sreeya just to call you out I do not, script these voice notes they're all done from my noggin, the head immediately into the microphone it wouldn't work script wise, I have to go through a script you would be able to tell I was just reading something from a script but it comes from the head. So there you go. But on that topic we did talk about the one day at a time thing so Sreeya you brought it up a few times like you know, still can't get the heads around the one day at a time thing, how do you live one day at a time when you've a plan for your career, very very valid points. What I'd say is the only time you ever have is right now that's a fact so tomorrow not guaranteed so think about the day before Covid changed the whole world you didn't maybe didn't see it coming maybe you did But you can't keep thinking tomorrow's guaranteed because it's not.

Speaker 1:

So today's the only day you have or the right now is the only time you have. The past is gone so it's really pointless thinking about it. The past is gone. What are you doing right now? So if you did a plan and you put yourself on a trajectory this way, the only way to get to that end goal is to focus on the day to day.

Speaker 1:

And that's what it means to live one day at a time. I didn't come up with it myself, it's like ancient knowledge, it's been there for thousands of years. You know the Buddha was on about it, living in the middle way and he's talking about being present, be here now. The stoics and the ancient Greeks talk about a I'm probably saying that wrong so anyone who knows Latin let me know means make haste slowly, so live with haste in terms of be urgent with your day because right now is wherever you go, right? Slowly understand the haste you're making right now, the progress you're making right now doesn't necessarily mean it's gonna come right now.

Speaker 1:

So you've gotta be slow in that anticipation, right? So if you think about that and then all other cultures and stuff have all got similar, like Dale Carnegie talks about in the book, how to stop worrying and start living. He talks about living in day tight compartments like a ship, right? He talks about how a big ship going towards The UK to America, they've all got compartments but they're all going in the right direction but each compartment is each day and it's gotta be airtight, each one is very airtight, boom, boom, boom. You can start off how you want with your gratitude and your planning and your walks and then you can finish the day with your reflection and chats and all that stuff and you can boom day type compartments.

Speaker 1:

If you think about all of them at once you can't think of any. Think about it. If think about six months ahead all the time, think about this and that. You can't think about right now when the time just passes by and you're spending the time just passing by on shit in the future that's not happening. Right?

Speaker 1:

So that's what I'm saying. But back to the event. Right. So the event. Let me let me try and summarise it.

Speaker 1:

How I described it on camera, the camera guy asked me, Scott can you summarise like the event in a few sentences? I was like it's kind of like a long lost family finally meeting each other. And that's exactly how I would explain it. I don't know if that sounds weird or fine but it just that's how it felt. And it was amazing.

Speaker 1:

I can't name people because there's so many people I met that was amazing. And I'm glad a lot of you listened to the voice notes. Do appreciate listening to these voice notes and letting them help you day because some of them might, some of them won't, but the end of the day it's about maybe just going on that walk and having a little, listen to a little silly Welsh accent in the morning and I might give you the kick up the ass you need, who knows. But something simple five, ten minutes long awesome. But it is incredible how like a group of people are saying this to like, so Jess Glossa, twenty four years old, her mother Vanessa G, they're kind of like the bookend of the group.

Speaker 1:

Vanessa G is the, she might hate me for saying this, maybe the oldest person of the day, adult Jess is the youngest and seeing the spectrum of ages. This is what you don't get when you, in general life, unless you go to work. You go in school, you're always with people your age, you go to university, you're always with people your age, you go to the work, you might work with people older but you only hang on with people your age. And I think there's such a life hack to harming around and listening and chatting with people from different age groups from different backgrounds right and understanding what they see and listening to them. For example Vanessa G, your husband Ed were a legend.

Speaker 1:

Ed if you are listening to this somehow you are a legend. I loved chatting to you and all the wisdom and all the information you know. And just having conversations and being able to have conversations like that, I genuinely think is vital for people of all ages because you can feel quite like solo and alone if you're only thinking of people speaking your age, do you mean? You can learn a lot from people who are older, you can learn a lot from people who are younger and bringing them together, having banter and all that is essential, essential. There's a philosopher back in the day called Epicurus and he really believed in the fact that you should have the ultimate form of living was in a community of your mates.

Speaker 1:

Obviously that would probably entail a few different age groups, different people doing different jobs and that's where you think all of you doing your own thing but coming together community to drink and eat and talking about stuff, that was the ultimate thing. And I think there's an essence of Alan Turtle membership being the fact there's a community alive online has come obviously alive in real life, thank God. You're not just like images, you're actually real, you know holograms. Could have tried to poke through someone's head in case they were fake but the chances are would have been the disaster. But people were real, right?

Speaker 1:

And it was great. But yeah, honestly what a day. So I'd love to know people post the Mighty Networks Facebook group, did you make out of the day? We're definitely gonna do more of them, across The UK at no cost to Turtle members obviously, or like minimal minimal cost if we need to cover something, but low key events, we're definitely gonna do more of them. So I do want to just say a massive thanks to everybody that came because you make this job amazing, you do.

Speaker 1:

My job is literally at the moment to you know obviously grow and help Turtle go to the next level, but really to come up with ways I can spend my time coming up with ways and ideas and how I can make your lives easier and better achieving your goals. But at the same time, you all give a lot back, you're in the Q and A's, you're in the check-in the comments and you make it a really, really, really amazing place to work in a way and really good job. So I wanna thank you all for turning up and being so nice. Basically you're gonna be, you know, maybe I need to work on my accent, the universal accent for turtles, obviously you've got the rash accent here, but when you see me in real life, it's probably even stronger unfortunately for you guys, not for me because I love what it is obviously, but maybe I need to come up with a universal accent so let me know who wants to coach me on the, transatlantic accent they had in the 60s on TV. That was a good accent, bit of a Queen's English, bit of American.

Speaker 1:

I thought it was great. But is there anything else I can think about today? It was just one of those things you have to be there in the moment like I said you have to be there in the moment to appreciate it. I don't wanna like Krishna Murti says in his books, don't wanna pervert the joy of the day by trying to spread it out and making it, ah, listen, I wish it was longer. No, it was perfect how it was.

Speaker 1:

That day the joy in the moment, it went by fast but it was only a few hours. That day you couldn't add them all to it and we shouldn't be sad that it's an ass over, no. It's amazing that it happened, it's amazing that you all came together, you've all been supporting each other since Covid, you've all been, you all transformed in your own ways. I think you know there's no need to drag that across, we'll meet them all again in the future but just remember if you are new to the turtle membership or whatever and you haven't involved yourself in the community, there's gonna be more newbie sessions because I understand the power of it. We're gonna make sure we're more there was a lot of people who came up who were new, you know, in a membership after the event went to the pub and Alison they rose, there's people that were new, who were older, just chatting like we were all be mates for years and it was amazing.

Speaker 1:

That's what it's all about. So if you join the turtle community, you wanna join more things, that's what we're all about. So what's my word of wisdom for you to go away with today? My word of wisdom for you to go away with today is obviously the one day at a time stuff. You listen to the start of the episode, you listen to the start of this episode and at the end, so that's fine.

Speaker 1:

But yeah I don't know I think if you put in effort to be part of the community, so you know whether that's messaging someone that has inspired you or messaging someone you want help from or maybe just you know messaging someone that you know you haven't spoken to and you want to know better information, whatever it is, the engagement you make with someone goes such a long way. And the fact that Sarah Shreds, say this to a full Instagram, it's Sarah Shreds, didn't know today that Jess Glosser was really inspired by her to join the church, even though mother was on there, Sarah was the one that kind of convinced her, looked at her transformation to go over the edge, but Sarah didn't know about that till today as like, oh my god, how many of these stories are there out there? Like if you have been inspired by someone, if you've got specifics, for your one big thing today just share it, tell that person in the group, in the dm, whatever it may be, just tell them what it is that made you do an X action that led to this and X and X because I think the more we can get that out in the open, the more like we realise how our little things, stories here, the voice note there, the zoom there, the check-in, the extra detail, the catching up, the following up, these little things add up and they change lives, they do.

Speaker 1:

But we need to be, we need to be more aware of them happening so that's your one big thing today, go and tell someone that's inspired you whatever it is, or the other way around or you just want to join in the community just ask someone have a chat and ask them to kick start maybe a revolution in your health and fitness. That's it guys, thirty minutes of my ramble about today. Thank you so much, have a good day, let me know if you need anything. Macros app is going to be live in a few weeks for everybody, for turtles, we got beta tests up to a 50 people, so more information in Mighty Networks on that. But please let me know how it goes, and let's get tracking.

Speaker 1:

And that's it. Thank you for listening to the one day at a time podcast with your host, Golf Leer. Hopefully, you understood something I said. I hope that some wisdom kind of distilled through into your mind, and I want you to now action it today. I don't want you to think about tomorrow.

Speaker 1:

I don't want you to think about yesterday. I don't want you to think about leaving a review on this podcast. I don't want you to think about going to another website. What I want you to do is as soon as this podcast ends, you will take action and make the most of today. Ground yourself today.

Speaker 1:
