The danger of self-sabotage is greatest when the finish line is in sight

Speaker 1:

Good morning everyone. We are into week five. Can you believe it? We are nearly there. Ba bam.

Speaker 1:

Week five. Okay. The thing is week five is the most dangerous week. Well, it's not for week five, just the final week, the finish line. When a finish line's in sight, we are at our most vulnerable of a counter attack by what is called resistance.

Speaker 1:

Resistance is something we can't exploit. We only feel it and we don't really know about it until you're kind of aware of it. So an author called Steven Pressfield, you know, talks about resistance and he speaks about it will do anything to stop you doing your work. It'll do anything to stop you doing what you know you wanna do. And it's, the most common form is procrastination.

Speaker 1:

But resistance is that kind of at the end of the stuff why do we self destruct? Know we ask ourselves like why is it that I never really finish what I'm doing? And why is it when I'm always nearly there, my weight loss goal is nearly there, my strength goal, the plan I was gonna do? Why is it that at the end, it's always at the end that I trip up and fail? And you think, is it?

Speaker 1:

It's resistance. It's what he calls resistance. And he explains it beautifully. It's not something you can see, touch, hear, smell, it's to be felt, it's like an energy field, it is, it's within us, he was looking for other things, why can't I write my novels, why can't I do it, looking other outside reasons, but it's in, it's the enemy within. And resistance will tell you anything from doing the work or you wanna do it.

Speaker 1:

Okay? You will fabricate, falsify, seduce, bully. It will make shit up in your head. Okay? We all have this.

Speaker 1:

Oh, you don't have to track that right now. You'll do it later. Knowing full well you won't because you've done this many times before. You're gonna do work oh, you don't have to do that workout today. You'll do it tomorrow.

Speaker 1:

That might be the case. Some of you might do the workout tomorrow. But for you guys to know that you don't follow through with a change of plan, don't let resistance lie to you and do that to you this week. Okay? Look at things.

Speaker 1:

Resistance is objective. It's full of shit. It's powerful. It's there to kill goals. It's there to kill any progress you wanna make towards these big life changes, health, fitness, new career, new business.

Speaker 1:

These things that take a lot that's sort of very we're scared to do. Resistance kills more of these than anything else. And he explains that it's gone all strength of its own, okay, it comes from within us so we have the power to overcome resistance and the biggest thing is it is when the finish line is in sight, when it's at its most dangerous, it will marshal one last assault basically. So go, woah, he's actually gonna finish this five week challenge, we can't have this. No, no, no, no, No.

Speaker 1:

No. No. Excuses come in. Excuse. Pop the excuse button flat out.

Speaker 1:

Panic button. Panic button. And then you could start thinking all of a sudden, oh, well, yeah. Yeah. Maybe I don't have maybe I don't have to do this.

Speaker 1:

Like, I've I've done a lot of work. Yeah. I've done a lot of work in these four weeks. I should ease up in the last week maybe. No.

Speaker 1:

We're going into this last week. We're gonna smash this last week. We're not gonna let any resistance slow us down. We are about to win. The only way you can stop us this week is convinces us with nonsense that we should slow down.

Speaker 1:

No, we shouldn't slow down. We are gonna smash this final week. This final week, we're gonna do the same set as last week, which killed a lot of you. You're like, ah, agony. You know, soreness, it was a tough workout and it is, but this week it's the same.

Speaker 1:

Okay, we've done it now. Our body's gone through it but this time we're gonna be a bit stronger. We're gonna do extra few reps. Right? We're gonna do it, we're gonna up the weight maybe.

Speaker 1:

But what we're not gonna do is fall trap into resistance this week and go, well, I'll just try and do the same as last week. No, no, you're not going to try and do the same as last week. You are going to do at least the same as last week. And we're going in with intent this week because we want to finish strong. Remember one of my voice notes I did before when I talk about confidence, the way we increase our confidence is if we actually follow through what we say we're going to do.

Speaker 1:

So if we say we're going to do a five week challenge and we complete the five week challenge that gives us confidence knowing actually I'm not full of shit. Actually I can beat resistance and complete the task. And it gives you massive confidence going into Christmas and then into the new year when we got a new challenge at the January starting Octagon two point o. So we need to start sticking to our words. Okay?

Speaker 1:

We do not finish things at 80%, ninety %. We go to a hundred we finish them. We have to finish this challenge strong. We will not slow down now. Okay?

Speaker 1:

We need to do it. And I think the more we can be alert of this kind of onslaught in the final week where we all kind of go back to square one essentially because we just drop off. Because this is what happens. The the the the the spiral of death happens and you go, yeah, you'll ease up this week. Okay.

Speaker 1:

Next week you go, oh, the challenge is over now so, you know, whatever. And you go into bad habits again. And before you know it, you're three or four weeks in to your habits and stuff you did prior to challenge. You've forgotten about the training you were doing. Forgot about what you learned about strength training.

Speaker 1:

And then you're gonna go into the new year going, my God, why have I done it again for the twenty fourth year in a row? Going into the new year in a position where I didn't wanna be. I wanted to go and feel the strongest than I ever, but I go back to square one again. It's the same thing happening all the time, and I really want you all to be aware of this week. And I wanna see people's attitude this week, being strong attitude towards smashing this week.

Speaker 1:

I wanna see some I wanna see energy in the groups. I wanna see people on the workout. I wanna see you pushing it, you know, grimacing face, get angry. You know, this is all about like, you know, anger that was shown in studies of that if can get angry during a workout set, you're 20% stronger than if you were calm by trying 100% which is mad if you think about it. So our anger can, you know, we can really get angry this week.

Speaker 1:

Let's build up anger this week at the fact that we've let resistance beat us in all of our lives. Think back how many projects, how many ideas, how many things did you want to do with your life that you ended up not doing? And they have really things you really, really wanted to do. You really, really wanted to go traveling, really, really wanted to do this course or that business or go for that promotion or do this and that and you're kicking yourself about it because you didn't the fear crippled you, resistance crippled you. Get angry at all of these things we've been beaten by resistance over over our lives And let's manifest the anger to smash it this week.

Speaker 1:

I mean, this can be the turning point for our not just health and fitness, but our lives. So when it comes into 2022, we can set intentions of we're not letting resistance or fear beat us around anymore. 2022 is the year we're gonna go for all these big things you always wanted to do. Yeah? That's but it it's this it starts with this week.

Speaker 1:

This is the first it doesn't have a clue, guys. It doesn't know I'm talking to you. He's he's gonna have a shock and he bam bam. You've had some some pep talk about gonna beat resistance this week. But once we can beat you this week, and I I know you all are gonna do it, and I want you all to do it, and I want you to smash it.

Speaker 1:

When you go into Christmas, you're feeling top of world. When we go into the new year by going in with such a strong mindset and we got such an amazing challenge coming at the end of Jan. We're just gonna get through January 2022 I feel it for everybody. If we can stick on this path of self improvement, community helping each other out, reading, learning, completing what we say we're gonna do, we're not gonna be unstoppable. We're gonna do huge things and I can't wait to see what people come up with.

Speaker 1:

Like so many amazing stories from the group's total members, know, from from starting businesses to quitting jobs to telling someone, you know, leaving relationship. There's loads of stuff that people have done since they've joined Turtle and been able to get our confidence and overcome it. Imagine what we can do now when we understand this. Knowing that we beat this resistance this week, that's gonna help push us into 2022 with resistance on the back foot and where in the ascendancy. So I will leave you with that.

Speaker 1:

It's coming, know, gonna procrastination is gonna hit hard, you're gonna want to pick up your phone, waste hours of scrolling away. You're gonna want to go and do, you want to go short in your reps and the workouts, you might want to cut one set short, you might want to stop at the last moment in the sets. There's gonna be a few things and I want you in those moments just to remember what I'm saying, that's resistance. That's not you. You don't want that to happen.

Speaker 1:

You want to succeed. That's resistance and it's full of shit. Let's not let it beat us. And on that note everybody, I do wish you the best of days for the last, the last Monday of the challenge. Again, we focus one day at a time obviously.

Speaker 1:

Let's just what can we do today? If we can do it today, like I say, if you can get a really good day today, guess what? You can do it again tomorrow and again day after and day after. But the the magic is is only focusing on doing it a day at a time because that's manageable. We can break it down.

Speaker 1:

We can see it. We can visualize it. And if you've got our turtle journals, there's two exercises in there to do, and let's do it now. The first exercise is let's look at what a success let's look at what we wanna get done today. Okay?

Speaker 1:

What's your to do list? What's your one big thing? What's your one big task? If you did today, it would move the needle and give you successful day if you didn't complete anything else. Let's have a look at what those are.

Speaker 1:

Is it the workout tracking macros? Okay. You've now visualized what you want to do today. Okay? Now visualize what would happen if you let emotions and, external things come in and disrupt your mind and cause chaos and your emotions, you're sad, angry, you just didn't get around to doing any of the tasks.

Speaker 1:

You didn't get to do the workout because you didn't protect your mind. You didn't get this, were caught in gossiping, you were caught in an argument, suck your energy, like look at where that leads the day. At the end of the day, you're on the back foot, right? You're not feeling great. You've let silly things ruin your mind.

Speaker 1:

And the Epictetus talks about this like, when you're walking on cobbles stuff like that flat or barefooted or on stones on the beach and the rocks, you are always careful where your foot's going because you don't twist your ankle. This is saying what you should be doing with our thoughts for the day. We should be always on guard, like where do we step in? I don't wanna trip up in my mind. So we need to think of that.

Speaker 1:

So think of the worst thing that can happen, it's just the day's ruined and you've run back foot. But now think of the opposite. Now think if you could be in control of your emotions, how you respond today, you decide how to respond, you don't react and you're able to put all those tasks and get them done. You're able to do a big workout, you're able to track your macros perfectly, drink the water, not fall into gossip, not fall into these small bad habits to be there, not scroll aimlessly on Instagram. Okay?

Speaker 1:

Not to do all these things. Imagine how you feel when their head hits the pillow tonight. You're gonna sleep amazing. You are. That's it.

Speaker 1:

Good sleep. You get good sleep and you get good when you do good days. When you know you've left no stone unturned and you've made the most of the days, happens and sleep comes in well. When we know we haven't done what we could we have overthinking and like, fuck it, I wish I did it. Why can't do it?

Speaker 1:

Fight ourselves. So that's it. You've now visualized it one way or the other and it's up to you right now to decide which way you're gonna start going. So whatever task you need to get done, get and do it right now as I finish this voice note. Now, guys, love you all.

Speaker 1:

See you on the other side of resistance.
