Wisdom from Jim Rohn

Speaker 1:

Welcome to the one day at a time podcast where we forget about yesterday. We don't worry about tomorrow. It's what are we going to do today? This all matters because you've only ever had or will ever have the fantastic twenty four hours a day you're about to embark on. So hopefully this episode is going to give you some daily dose of wisdom that you can take action on today to improve your life.

Speaker 1:

And remember, all it takes is one day at a time. Oh hello, good morning everyone. Well it's Thursday which means there's a webinar tonight on the membership which means there's a last book club session which means the challenge is nearly over So yeah and thank everyone for doing the feedback form if you have not done the feedback form yet please do fill her in, it's massively helpful, it's anonymous so you know the truth is always best and we always improve each time. So there's been some really good feedback. And look, know that doing a challenge with so many moving parts and different options is going to be Marmite for people.

Speaker 1:

We know like, you know, doing martial arts and then, you know, yoga and boxing and HIIT workouts and body weight workouts, and it's not going to be for everyone. We know that it's going to be tough for some people, but you know what, this challenge was a really big eye opener for us to say, to realize, you know what, health and fitness doesn't have to be just about weightlifting, some body weight workouts, macros. You guys love the boxing. You guys have really enjoyed the yoga. I want to bring in some dance lessons.

Speaker 1:

I'm not saying I'm gonna be good, but we're gonna bring some fun dance lessons. I'll reveal tonight the new schedule next week. But look, we're always going to be trying new things as this business. That's something we're always going to do. I think any of you who are business owners who want to start business, you have to try new things as well.

Speaker 1:

Because we all learn and we all and we want to build a membership for you guys. End of the day, if you really don't want something, you're going to tell us and we cut it out. If you all really want more something, we'll get more in. So it's all good stuff, it's all good stuff. Anyway, usually every challenge or every voice note I've done for the three challenges we've done in the last you know, year since lockdown, I do a voice note on Jim Rohn Quartz And Jim Rohn was this guy who was a business guy in America, very famous business guy.

Speaker 1:

He was the one who mentored Tony Robbins. And basically, he became bankrupt at 25. He has a story where he was at his house with his wife and kids at 25 and these girl scouts come up asking, does he wanna buy some cookies for charity and he couldn't even afford it. So his wife had to to chip in instead. And he was like, you know what?

Speaker 1:

I've had enough of this lifestyle. I'm never gonna I'm never gonna live like this again. Became a millionaire by 31, lost it all by 32, became a millionaire again. So he's been through it all in terms of financial roller coasters and being at the bottom going to the top. But he's such an amazing guy.

Speaker 1:

Listen to his audiobooks or read his books. Here are a few of his quotes for you to take on with your day today. And they helped me as much hopefully, they help you as much as they helped me when I was a young 18 year old guy looking for some wisdom, and I came across Jim Rohn, thank you. Okay, first one he says, don't say if I could I would, say if I can I will? Okay, yeah I could if I would, no don't do that.

Speaker 1:

Number two, don't wish it was easier, wish you were better. Don't wish for less problems, wish for more skills. Don't wish for less challenge, wish for more wisdom. That's beautiful. Some of these quotes you would have heard but you maybe wouldn't have known it was him.

Speaker 1:

Either you run the day or the day runs you. If you heard me say that I think that's bang on. Are you running the day today or you can let the day run you today? What's your one big thing? Without a sense of urgency desire loses its value.

Speaker 1:

If you don't like how things are change it, you're not a tree. I love it when he says that and he's saying because he goes really funny voice. It's true though if you don't like you know don't like something you can do something about it in most cases okay we talk extreme stuff like being a prisoner, not much you can do. But in general, in your life, in a first world country, like The UK or The US or wherever, you can do something about it, whether you like to accept it or not. How long should you try until?

Speaker 1:

See, saying that someone used to go up to Moltheim like how how long should I try and get rich? How long should I try and get a successful business? Well, until it works, mate. What more do you want? One more answer.

Speaker 1:

What do what do you need? What do you mean? How long until I lose weight and become happy in my body? Well until you do, until you do accept yourself and accept your body and start speaking positively to yourself. It's not going to just happen, it's not going to be fast, it's a process of loving yourself which is you've probably had a process of hating yourself for the last ten years, it's time to reverse it, it's not going to happen overnight isn't it.

Speaker 1:

Okay, so here we go. If you're not willing to risk the unusual you will have to settle for the ordinary, start from wherever you are and whatever you've got, formal education will make you a living, self education will make you a fortune, I would revise our quote and say self education in terms of what you're doing now with health and fitness will make your body a health fortune. Like you're gonna give yourself vitality and youth and energy and happiness and strength. And that's all comes from your self education because ultimately you leave school, they don't teach you how to eat properly or macros and stuff, teach you any of that stuff. It has to be self education.

Speaker 1:

And it talks about in Bee Water my friend if you did read, the only true education is self education is to know thyself and that's the most important thing ultimately. You can know as much as you want about dinosaurs and trees and stuff and whales but knowing yourself is the only thing that really matters right. Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines practiced every day. Bang on Jim, bang on. Okay, motivation is what gets you started, habit is what keeps you going, yep.

Speaker 1:

To solve any problem here are three questions to ask yourself. First, what could I do? Second, what could I read? And third, who could I ask? Okay, that's a good one.

Speaker 1:

If you really want to do something you'll find a way, if you don't you'll find an excuse. If you've got to work on your goals, your goals are going to work on you. If you've to work on your plan, your plan will go to work on you, whatever good things we build end up building us. Motivation alone is not enough. If you have an idiot and you motivate him, now you have a motivated idiot.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it's true. You can't just go and do something and you know, again, and you know, fad diets, know, that's not good. You do get motivated to do something that's actually harmful. It isn't what the book costs, it's what it will cost you if you don't read it. What will it cost you to not read Be Water my friend by Shannan Lee?

Speaker 1:

Could cost you a lot telling you look at people's reviews of it. It's been and I'm looking at the feedback form earlier. Big, big, big pauses from the book. You know, I'm I'm I'm I'm not married to the book. Like, if someone said, hey, that book was shit, Scott.

Speaker 1:

Fair enough. But the people have loved it. And if it's that that been that useful definitely give a read. You must take personal responsibility, you cannot change the circumstances the seasons of the wind but you can change yourself that is something you have charge of. Success is neither magical nor mysterious, success is the natural consequence of consistently applying the basic fundamentals yes yes yes yes.

Speaker 1:

Failure is not a single cataclysmic event, you don't fail overnight instead failure is a few errors in judgment repeated every day. Work harder on yourself than you do on your job. You cannot change your destination overnight but you can change your direction overnight. I love that, I love it. You don't get paid for the hour you get paid for the value you bring to the hour.

Speaker 1:

True. Don't just read the easy stuff you may be entertained by it but you will never grow from it. Let others lead small lives but not you. Let others argue over small things but not you. Let others cry over small hurts but not you.

Speaker 1:

Let others leave their future in someone else's hands but not you. We must all suffer one of two things, the pain of discipline or the pain of regret or disappointment. Oh, yeah, %. Jim, hundred %. Without a sense of urgency, desire loses, I've said that one.

Speaker 1:

Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment. Take advantage of every opportunity to practice your communication skills so that when important occasions arise you'll have the gift, the style of the sharpness, the clarity and the emotions to affect other people. If you don't like how things are changing you're not afraid why is this repeating things? Days are expensive when you spend a day you have one less day to spend. So make sure you spend each one wisely.

Speaker 1:

How are you spending today? How are you spending today? Give whatever you are doing or whatever you're with the gift of your attention, be fully present in the moment one day at a time guys come on, you the gist by now. Learn how to be happy with what you have while you pursue all that you want. Perfect.

Speaker 1:

You cannot make progress without making decisions. Are you joining the turtle membership? Yes or no. No one else makes us angry. We make ourselves angry when we surrender control of our attitude.

Speaker 1:

Your personal philosophy is the greatest determining factor in how you in how your life works out. Yep. What are your values, people? What are your values? A few more to go guys.

Speaker 1:

The big challenge is to become all that you have the possibility of becoming. You cannot believe what it has what it does to the human spirit to maximize your human potential and stretch yourself to the limit. The challenge of leadership is so strong but not rude, be kind but not weak, be bold but not a bully, be thoughtful but not lazy, be humble but not timid, be proud but not arrogant, have humor but without folly. The more you care the stronger you can be. Character is a quality that embodies many important traits such as integrity, courage, perseverance, confidence and wisdom.

Speaker 1:

Unlike your fingerprints that you are born with you can't change and you can't change. Character is something you can create within yourself and must take responsibility for changing. Yep. And that's it guys. Hope one of them resonated with you today.

Speaker 1:

I know I just shock and a lot of them aren't you but someone would have some of them would have resonated for me this is the most important one for me. And this is your take home for today. We must all suffer one of two things, the pain of discipline or the pain of regret regret and disappointment. Now what's your decision for that today? Don't care about you tomorrow or the next day, whatever.

Speaker 1:

What's your decision today? You're gonna suffer the pain of discipline? Gonna get the workers down your steps, meal prep, whatever? Or you're gonna suffer the pain of regret tomorrow when you realize, I could have done my best yesterday, another day gone down the pan. So, you know, it starts with your one big thing.

Speaker 1:

Make sure you get that done and you build momentum off that. But one day at a time, the challenge is nearly over, but it doesn't matter. Make the most of today it might be the only day you ever have but it is the only day you ever have twenty four hours a day so enjoy yourself and I'll speak to you later if you're on the webinar. And that's it thank you for listening to the one day at a time podcast with your host, Golf Leer. Hopefully, you understood something I said.

Speaker 1:

I hope that some wisdom kind of distilled through into your mind, and I want you to now action it today. I don't want you to think about tomorrow. I don't want you to think about yesterday. I don't want you to think about leaving a review on this podcast. I don't want you to think about going to another website.

Speaker 1:

What I want you to do is as soon as this podcast ends, you will take action and make the most of today. Ground yourself today. Follow the one day at a time philosophy and your life will change.
